Medical Assistant — California Renal Care
Job Type: Full-time, in person
Pay: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour, based on experience, skills, and training

California Renal Care is a physician-led nephrology practice serving the Monterey Peninsula and Salinas Valley, providing high-quality outpatient kidney care in a professional, patient-centered environment. Position Summary
The Medical Assistant supports physicians and advanced practice providers by performing clinical and administrative duties within scope of practice. This role is essential to maintaining efficient clinic flow, accurate documentation, and a positive patient experience.
Entry-level Medical Assistants will receive structured training and support. Experienced Medical Assistants are expected to function independently within established protocols and contribute to clinic efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Clinical Support
Measure and document vital signs, weight, height, and patient history
Room and prepare patients for provider evaluation
Assist physicians and NPs during clinic sessions
Perform clinical tasks within MA scope, including injections and immunizations, venipuncture (if trained), and point-of-care testing (urinalysis, blood glucose, pregnancy tests, hemoccult, etc.)
Complete medication reconciliation and allergy review
Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record
Clinical Administration & Coordination
Handle patient phone calls, messages, and prescription refill requests
Support referral and diagnostic coordination workflows
Assist with check-in/check-out and virtual rooming as needed
Manage EMR In-Basket/CRM tasks related to clinic operations
Serve as a liaison between providers, patients, and staff
Clinic Operations & Maintenance
Prepare, stock, and maintain exam rooms and treatment areas
Monitor medical supplies and medication expiration dates
Support weekly clinic preparation and daily workflow readiness
Sterilize instruments and follow infection prevention protocols
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional clinic environment
Qualifications
Education & Certification
High School Diploma or GED required, AND one of the following:
Certificate or transcript from a medical assisting program
Completion of MA training by a licensed physician
Certification through a Medical Board of California–approved MA certifying organization
Current American Heart Association BCLS/CPR certification is a plus.
Experience
Prior outpatient or specialty MA experience preferred but not required
Phlebotomy and EMR experience (Epic preferred) are a plus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of medical terminology and outpatient workflows
Strong patient-service mindset and communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a clinical team
Ability to follow protocols and standard operating procedures
Comfort working in a fast-paced clinic environment
Willingness to learn and grow in a specialty practice
