Job Description
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Multiple Special Education teaching opportunities are available for the 2026-2027 school year in vibrant urban communities. These contract roles offer the chance to support students in self-contained and resource classroom settings. Educators with experience or endorsements in Cognitive Impairment (CI), Emotional Impairment (EI), or learning disabilities (LD) are invited to make a lasting impact while working collaboratively with a dedicated special education team.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate, with preference for EI or CI endorsements; LD or MDE endorsement ZA (Early Childhood) with a second Special Education area considered.
- Understanding of MARSE (Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education) and related IDEA Federal Regulations.
- Professional experience with students who have cognitive and emotional impairments is highly valued.
- Capacity to discuss resources and challenges unique to urban student populations.
- Copy of official university transcripts required prior to district consideration.
- Comfortable working onsite (not virtual) and engaging with a diverse urban student body.
Responsibilities:
- Instruct and support K-12 students in self-contained or resource classroom settings, with caseloads varying by need.
- Address the individual educational needs of students with cognitive impairments (5 positions), emotional impairments (1 position), or learning disabilities (5 positions).
- Implement individualized education programs (IEPs) and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, mentorship, and academic training.
- Collaborate with classroom paraprofessionals, behavior specialists, and related service providers.
