§ Schedule: Full-time, Direct-Hire, Minimum 1,850 hours annual billed target.

§ The Firm:

Our client is a highly revered, Chambers USA-recognized civil litigation boutique with an established twenty-three-year history of excellence in the Southeastern legal market. Founded by a select group of veteran trial advocates—including leadership honored with a fellowship in the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers—the firm handles sophisticated, high-stakes defenses on behalf of major regional hospital systems, prominent medical practices, and institutional anchors. Despite the institutional caliber of its caseload, the firm operates strictly as a lifestyle-oriented practice, providing a supportive and collegial alternative to the relentless, cutthroat environments typical of AmLaw 100/200 organizations. Leadership prides itself on active, hands-on partner mentorship, ensuring that junior and mid-level associates are nurtured into exceptional trial lawyers rather than being pigeonholed or left without guidance. To optimize associate focus on substantive legal development, the firm maintains a phenomenal one-to-one paralegal support ratio, offering an unparalleled operational environment for long-term career stability.

§ Duties:

The incoming litigation attorney will play a pivotal role within an incredibly active medical malpractice defense practice group, managing diverse aspects of complex civil defense from initial case assessment through trial preparation. This position emphasizes comprehensive legal advocacy, direct client contact, and independent file management under the guidance of seasoned partners. ⨖ Defending leading medical institutions, healthcare networks, and physicians against high-exposure medical negligence and professional liability claims. ⨖ Drafting and refining sophisticated legal documents, including responsive pleadings, substantive motions, appellate briefs, and complex discovery sets. ⨖ Analyzing voluminous medical records, reviewing clinical data, and collaborating closely with medical experts to construct formidable defense strategies. ⨖ Conducting and defending oral depositions of plaintiffs, fact witnesses, and treating medical professionals. ⨖ Representing institutional clients independently at judicial hearings, motions arguments, and status conferences as professional development accelerates. ⨖ Assisting senior trial counsel with courtroom preparation, including exhibit selection, witness sequencing, and jury instruction formulation.

§ Qualifications:

⨖ Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school with a distinguished academic record.

⨖ Active, valid license to practice law in the state of South Carolina in good standing.

⨖ Two to six years of post-bar civil litigation experience, ideally acquired within a respected regional firm or insurance defense practice.

⨖ Substantive experience independently managing litigation workflows, including drafting dispositive motions and conducting depositions.

⨖ Commitment to a consistent, full-time, in-office presence at the firm's Greenville headquarters.

§ Skills:

⨖ Prior practice experience in medical malpractice defense, insurance defense, or professional liability litigation is highly desired but not mandatory.

⨖ A strong desire to transition away from high-volume, administrative litigation (such as workers' compensation or repetitive claims) into highly sophisticated, bespoke trial work.

⨖ Superb analytical capabilities and legal writing acumen, to be verified by a redacted writing sample.

⨖ A collaborative, professional, and humble demeanor with an eagerness to absorb constructive critique and direct mentorship from premier senior trial attorneys.

⨖ Exceptional interpersonal communication skills suitable for interfacing with corporate executives, institutional risk managers, and medical professionals.
