Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Current CASAC or CASACT.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience providing direct services to people with alcohol and/or drug-related disorders.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • CPR and First Aid certifications (must obtain and maintain).
  • Certification as an Opioid Overdose Responder (NYSOOPP).

Work Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Work Location Requirement: Onsite

Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM including 1 late day 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM

Compensation: $28.0527

About the Role

The Substance Use Specialist assists clients with understanding and managing substance abuse, providing counseling, harm reduction, relapse prevention, and linkage to treatment resources.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct and review assessments to determine substance use needs and preferences.
  • Provide individual and group counseling focused on substance use, recovery, and stability.
  • Serve as a liaison to TORCH and other programs to coordinate substance use services.
  • Develop relationships with detox, rehabilitation, and treatment centers.
  • Ensure clients have transportation/escort to substance use appointments.
  • Provide motivational interviewing, harm reduction counseling, and relapse prevention techniques.
  • Guide onsite drug testing as appropriate.
  • Promote smoke-free environments and monitor Naloxone kit availability and expiration.
  • Collaborate with peer counselors and support linkages to Buprenorphine/Methadone programs.
  • Assist in orientation of new personnel.
  • Maintain accurate electronic and paper case records.
  • Adhere to attendance and timekeeping expectations.
  • Participate in clinical meetings, staff meetings, supervisions, and trainings.
  • Execute emergency plans; administer CPR/first aid as needed.
  • Participate in management/supervision meetings and required trainings.
  • Report serious incidents and complete incident reports.
  • Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, and agency policies.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
