Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Job Description

The Maintenance Technician will perform primarily mechanical maintenance on a variety of industrial production equipment. This role focuses heavily on troubleshooting, repairing, and rebuilding mechanical components, with particular emphasis on gearboxes, pumps, and motors. The technician will work largely with hydraulic and pneumatic systems and will use manuals and blueprints to identify, replace, and adjust parts. While the position is almost entirely mechanical, it requires basic electrical awareness to safely identify energized components.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues on production machines to minimize downtime and maintain efficient operations.
  • Rebuild gearboxes on a regular basis, including disassembly, inspection, replacement of worn parts, reassembly, and testing.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment, including greasing bearings and lubricating moving parts, in alignment with the maintenance schedule.
  • Work extensively with bearing machines, wire cutting machines, shape enders, centerless grinders, and various industrial motors.
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain hydraulic pumps and hydraulic systems, ensuring safe and reliable operation.
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain pneumatic components and systems used in plant machinery.
  • Use equipment manuals and technical documentation to identify parts, understand assembly procedures, and correctly replace mechanical components such as bearings, seals, and gears.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and diagrams to support accurate diagnosis and repair of mechanical systems.
  • Change out and align motors as needed, ensuring proper installation and operation.
  • Perform basic electrical safety checks, including identifying what components are energized (“hot”) and ensuring safe work practices around electrical systems.
  • Complete approximately 75% of work on preventive maintenance tasks, 15% on reactive or breakdown maintenance, and 10% on project-based maintenance or improvement work.
  • Document maintenance activities, parts used, and work performed in accordance with plant procedures.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance personnel and production staff to prioritize work orders and support overall plant reliability.
  • Maintain an organized set of personal tools and ensure tools and work areas remain clean and safe.
Essential Skills
  • At least 3 years of mechanical repair experience specifically working on pumps or pneumatic components.
  • Proven experience as a maintenance technician, maintenance mechanic, industrial maintenance mechanic, or heavy equipment mechanic.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in mechanical repair, assembly, and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated experience performing preventive maintenance, including tasks such as greasing bearings and lubricating mechanical components.
  • Ability to read and understand equipment manuals to determine correct procedures for replacing parts and bearings.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints to support mechanical repair and installation work.
  • Experience changing out and installing motors, including proper alignment and securing of equipment.
  • Hands-on experience working with hydraulics and hydraulic pumps, including diagnosis and repair.
  • Hands-on experience working with pneumatics and pneumatic components in an industrial environment.
  • Basic electrical ability sufficient to recognize energized components, practice electrical safety, and understand what not to touch.
  • Ownership of basic hand tools and a toolbox suitable for mechanical maintenance work.
  • Capability to work largely in a mechanical maintenance capacity (approximately 98% mechanical tasks).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous experience in industrial maintenance environments working with production machinery such as bearing machines, wire cutting machines, shape enders, and centerless grinders.
  • Experience rebuilding gearboxes, including diagnosing failures and replacing internal components.
  • Experience working with various types of industrial motors and drive systems.
  • Electrical experience beyond basic safety, such as exposure to troubleshooting or supporting electrically driven equipment.
  • Experience working in or around wastewater-related equipment or facilities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on complex mechanical issues.
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and technical documentation accurately.
  • Willingness to work overnight shifts and participate in overtime as needed.
Why Work Here?

You join a stable operation that offers consistent work throughout the year and strong opportunities for overtime for those who want to increase their earnings. The organization values internal growth and regularly promotes from within, providing clear pathways to advance your career. Once hired directly, you can participate in a profit-sharing program that rewards your contribution to the company’s success. You also benefit from structured pay progression and annual reviews that support ongoing development and recognition of your skills.

Work Environment

This role is based in a plant environment on third shift, working approximately 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. New hires train on a day shift schedule for about 1 to 3 months before moving to the regular overnight shift. The position includes a shift premium for working off-shift hours, along with additional increases once hired directly and through yearly performance reviews. You will work around industrial machinery such as bearing machines, wire cutting machines, shape enders, centerless grinders, hydraulic pumps, pneumatic systems, and motors.
