Schedule: 3x12; Rotating Days/Nights

Float Required: Yes (to ICU and IMC as needed)
Call Requirement: Not Required
Note: Fast-paced CVICU; must have fresh open-heart experience; 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks
Position Overview:
The CVICU Registered Nurse provides specialized, high-acuity care to critically ill cardiac and surgical patients. The RN is responsible for managing post-operative cardiac cases, hemodynamic monitoring, and advanced life support interventions in a fast-paced cardiovascular intensive care environment.
Job duties:
Provide direct care to post-operative cardiac surgery patients including CABG, valve replacements, and aortic repairs
Monitor and manage hemodynamic status using arterial lines, central lines, and pulmonary artery (Swan Ganz) catheters
Care for patients immediately post open-heart surgery (fresh hearts) including 1:1 monitoring during initial recovery
Manage and titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips based on patient condition
Operate and monitor advanced equipment such as intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), CRRT, and ventilators
Assess and manage ventilated patients including suctioning, ABG interpretation, and oxygen therapy (BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC)
Administer blood products, IV sedation, and insulin infusions per protocol
Recognize and respond to cardiac dysrhythmias and emergencies
Provide care for critically ill patients with conditions such as septic shock, MI, stroke, ARDS, renal failure, and post-surgical complications
Assist with chest tube management and post-procedural cardiac interventions
Maintain strict infection control and isolation precautions
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes
Requirements:
Licensure: Active RN License
Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent, strong CVICU/CICU experience with fresh open-heart cases
Certifications: BLS, ACLS required; NIHSS required; CALS preferred
Other requirement: Must have experience in high-acuity cardiac ICU settings and be comfortable floating to ICU/IMC

Unit: CVICU, 10014
Patient Ratios: 1:2 (CVICU patients may be 1:1 for first 8–12 hours post-op)
Patient Population: Adults
Patient Diagnoses: Post open-heart surgeries (CABG, valve, aortic repair), TAVR, septic shock, stroke, post MI, cardiac tamponade, renal failure, ARDS, DKA, vascular and GI surgeries
Number of Beds: 6 CVICU beds within a 38-bed ICU
Daily Census: 1–5 CVICU patients; 26 ICU patients
