Service Manager – Fire Protection (Commercial Systems)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Service Manager to lead and grow our service division within a commercial fire protection company. This role is responsible for overseeing all service operations, including inspections, repairs, dispatch, technicians, and customer relationships.
The ideal candidate is a proven leader with direct experience managing service operations in a fire sprinkler or fire alarm company, with a track record of driving growth, improving efficiency, and building strong teams.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, manage, and develop service technicians, coordinators/dispatch, and administrative staff
- Establish performance expectations and accountability across the service team
- Conduct performance reviews, coaching, and ongoing development
- Build a strong, team-oriented culture focused on safety, quality, and results
Operations & Service Delivery
- Oversee daily service operations including scheduling, dispatching, and workload distribution
- Ensure efficient routing, labor utilization, and on-time service delivery
- Monitor job costing, productivity, and operational performance
- Implement systems and process improvements to increase efficiency and scalability
Customer Relations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for key clients and escalated service issues
- Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction through responsiveness and quality execution
- Build long-term relationships with commercial clients and property stakeholders
Revenue Growth & Service Sales
- Identify opportunities from inspections and service calls to drive repair and upgrade work
- Partner with sales teams to grow recurring service revenue and expand existing accounts
- Support pricing strategies, proposals, and service agreements
Compliance & Technical Oversight
- Ensure all service, inspection, and maintenance work complies with NFPA standards (including NFPA 25) and local codes
- Provide technical guidance and oversight for fire sprinkler and/or fire alarm systems
- Maintain quality control on reporting, documentation, and compliance requirements
Financial Performance
- Manage departmental P&L including revenue, margins, and labor costs
- Assist in forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning
- Review job profitability and adjust operations to meet financial targets
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Service Manager within a fire sprinkler and/or fire alarm company is REQUIRED
- Proven track record managing service and repair operations that demonstrated measurable growth
- Strong background in commercial fire protection systems (sprinkler and/or alarm)
- Working knowledge of NFPA standards, especially NFPA 25
- Experience leading technicians, dispatch, and service operations teams
- Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with service management and scheduling software
Preferred Qualifications
- NICET certification (any level)
- RME-I license or equivalent
- Backflow certification
- Experience in both sprinkler and alarm systems
- Background in service sales or business development
