ESS Clinical is actively seeking a qualified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (O&M) to support students within Washington Elementary School District (WESD) in Phoenix, Arizona for the 2026–2027 school year.

This is a rewarding opportunity to help students who are blind or visually impaired develop the skills necessary to travel safely, independently, and confidently within school, home, and community environments.

\nW2 Contracts Starting at $57/hr

\n\n

The Orientation & Mobility Specialist provides assessment, direct instruction, consultation, and support services to students with visual impairments. The O&M Specialist teaches safe and efficient travel skills, spatial awareness, environmental navigation, and independent mobility techniques to help students access their educational environment and participate fully in school and community activities.

\n\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\n\n
    \n\t
  • Conduct Orientation and Mobility evaluations and assessments\n\t
  • Develop and implement individualized Orientation and Mobility goals and services as part of the student's IEP\n\t
  • Provide direct instruction in:\n\t
      \n\t\t
    • Spatial and environmental awareness\n\t\t
    • Concept development\n\t\t
    • Sensory awareness and utilization\n\t\t
    • Human guide techniques\n\t\t
    • Protective techniques\n\t\t
    • Cane skills and travel techniques\n\t\t
    • Street crossings and community travel\n\t\t
    • Public transportation training, when appropriate\n\t
    \n\t\n\t
  • Collaborate with Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs), special education staff, administrators, and families\n\t
  • Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions\n\t
  • Evaluate and recommend mobility devices, adaptive equipment, and assistive technology\n\t
  • Provide consultation regarding environmental accessibility and safety accommodations\n\t
  • Maintain accurate service logs, progress reports, and required documentation\n\t
  • Train school staff on strategies to support students with visual impairments and mobility needs\n\t
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district special education requirements\n
\n\nRequired Qualifications\n\n

Candidates must possess one of the following:

\n\n
    \n\t
  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist through the
    \n\tAcademy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP)\n
\n\n

OR

\n\n
    \n\t
  • Certification as a National Orientation and Mobility Certification (NOMC) Specialist through the
    \n\tNational Blindness Professional Certification Board (NBPCB)\n
\n\nArizona Requirements\n\n
    \n\t
  • Ability to meet Arizona Department of Education and Washington Elementary School District requirements for related service providers\n\t
  • Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (or ability to obtain prior to start)\n
\n\nAdditional Qualifications\n\n
    \n\t
  • Knowledge of best practices in Orientation and Mobility instruction\n\t
  • Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired\n\t
  • Strong understanding of visual impairments and their impact on learning and mobility\n\t
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills\n\t
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team\n\t
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills\n
