Maintenance Technician
Location: Wooster, OH
Hiring multiple technicians for 2nd and 3rd shift
Pay: $30-45 per hour, depending on experience
Position Overview
Responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing manufacturing equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operation. The Maintenance Technician will perform electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and controls work on production machinery including conveyors, packaging systems, palletizers, and pumps. The role supports preventive maintenance, responds to production breakdowns, implements improvements, and helps maintain compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on equipment including conveyors, palletizers, packaging machinery, pumps, valves, and material handling systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems up to 480V, low voltage controls.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical systems: bearings, gearboxes, motors, couplings, belts, chains, and conveyor components.
- Service and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including cylinders, hoses, valves, and compressors.
- Program, tune, and support PLCs and HMIs for production lines; collaborate with engineers to implement control improvements.
- Fabricate and repair machine components using welding and basic metalworking techniques.
- Respond to production stoppages and emergency breakdowns, performing root-cause analysis and implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Perform testing and calibration of sensors, switches, meters, VFDs, and instrumentation.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and parts inventories; recommend spare parts and consumables to reduce downtime.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to equipment reliability, efficiency, and safety projects.
- Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and company environmental standards.
- Train operators and junior maintenance staff on basic troubleshooting, safe operation, and preventative care of equipment.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of hands-on maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally in a food, beverage, or packaging environment.
- Strong electrical skills including safe work on 480V systems and low-voltage controls.
- Mechanical aptitude with experience in pumps, valves, bearings, gearboxes, belts, and chain drives.
- Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting and repair.
- Welding skills (MIG/TIG or stick) sufficient for fabricating and repairing mounting brackets and guards.
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), safety regulations, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds, stand, bend and twist throughout the shift.
