Mobile Staff Solutions is seeking skilled Commercial Sheet Metal Mechanics in the Orlando area who have previous experience on commercial projects. This is a long term project that starts in a few weeks!
Position Summary
The Sheet Metal Mechanic is responsible for the fabrication, installation, and maintenance of sheet metal systems on commercial and industrial job sites. This position requires advanced knowledge of HVAC ductwork systems, blueprint reading, and precision metal fabrication. The ideal candidate is skilled, safety-conscious, and capable of delivering high-quality work while maintaining compliance with OSHA standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate, assemble, and install sheet metal duct systems, including fittings, supports, dampers, and other components.
- Work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate layout and installation.
- Perform field measurements and modifications to ensure a proper fit and function.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment such as brakes, shears, and plasma cutters safely and efficiently.
- Install and align air-handling systems, ventilation ducts, and related HVAC components.
- Collaborate with project managers, general contractors, and other trades to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion.
- Inspect and test installations for leaks, proper connections, and system performance.
- Follow OSHA, company, and site-specific safety protocols at all times.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a commercial or industrial sheet metal mechanic.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints, duct layouts, and construction drawings.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, air balance principles, and sheet metal fabrication techniques.
- Familiarity with duct fabrication standards and materials, including galvanized, stainless steel, and aluminum.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent problem-solving and time-management skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Work at heights, in tight spaces, and in various environmental conditions.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precision assembly and installation.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working on union, government, or institutional projects.
- Familiarity with SMACNA standards and sheet metal best practices.
- OSHA 10/30 certification.
- Experience with insulation, duct sealing, and air system testing.
