Class A Driver

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Class A CDL Driver to join our team. This is a union position represented by Local 206 SMART.

Schedule

• Monday through Friday
• Occasional Saturdays as needed
• Average 38–45 hours per week
• Overtime is likely
• No overnight routes

Requirements

• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
• Minimum 2 years of commercial driving experience
• Ability to pass a drug screening
• Ability to pass a basic physical examination and perform required physical job duties
• Ability to work safely and comply with all company, state, and federal regulations

Job Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations and commercial vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of 26,000 pounds or more
• Transport and deliver products safely and efficiently
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
• Maintain driver logs and vehicle records in compliance with applicable regulations
• Verify load documentation, bills of lading, and shipping paperwork
• Secure cargo using appropriate equipment and procedures
• Maneuver vehicles into loading and unloading positions
• Couple and uncouple trailers safely
• Communicate with dispatch, supervisors, customers, and other drivers as needed
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or cargo damage
• Perform basic vehicle maintenance, including checking fluid levels and minor servicing
• Assist with loading and unloading materials when required
• Operate onboard technology, GPS systems, radios, and other communication equipment
• Follow all traffic laws, DOT regulations, and company safety policies

Physical Requirements

The position regularly requires:

• Sitting for extended periods while driving
• Bending, twisting, and repetitive movements
• Working outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Lifting and moving materials up to 50 pounds
• Wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety shoes, gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, and hard hats when required
