Garage Operations Manager- Diesel Heavy Truck

Job Overview:

The Garage Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the maintenance shop, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant repair and service of heavy diesel trucks and tanker-trailer equipment. Must be open to all repairs both big and small, including in-depth and advanced repairs, as well as preventative maintenance services. Ensures compliance with DOT, OSHA, and Company safety standards.

Maintenance & Repairs:

• Oversee inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of heavy diesel trucks, tanker trailers.
• Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical issues in diesel vehicles and equipment
• Ensure proper and routine maintenance of transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, suspensions, fuel systems, pumps, motors, PTOs, filter replacements.
• Monitor and enforce preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and maximize fleet reliability.
• Perform automotive diagnostics to identify problems and propose solutions
• Utilize schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot complex issues
• Operate heavy equipment for testing and repair purposes
• Use hand tools effectively to dismantle, repair, and reassemble components

Operational & Administrative Duties:

• Maintain accurate records of repairs and services performed
• Monitor and enforce preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and maximize fleet reliability.
• Keep shop organized - good housekeeping practices are essential

Knowledge and Skills:

• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, tanker trailer systems, hydraulics, and brake systems.
• Familiarity with DOT regulations, OSHA safety standards, and preventative maintenance programs.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Computer proficiency for maintenance software, recordkeeping, and reporting.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED required; technical school or certification in diesel technology preferred.
• 3+ years of proven experience as a diesel mechanic with heavy trucks and tankers.
• 1+ years of supervisory or lead mechanic experience.
• Strong mechanical knowledge with expertise in heavy truck and tanker-trailer equipment
• Familiarity with industrial equipment, tractor-trailers, and HVAC systems
• Experience working in a dealership setting is a plus
• Proficiency in automotive diagnostics and troubleshooting techniques
• Ability to operate heavy equipment for diagnostic purposes

Certifications (Preferred)

• CDL Class A or B license.
• ASE certifications in Medium/Heavy Truck.
• Tanker/Hazmat knowledge or endorsements a plus.
