CNC Lead Machinist / Supervisor – Milling & Lathe (Day Shift)
Hauppauge, NY
Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
$40–$55/hour (based on experience and qualifications)
A well-established manufacturing company in Hauppauge, NY is seeking an experienced CNC Lead Machinist / Supervisor to join and lead its machining department.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is equally comfortable setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes as they are guiding daily production, supporting team members, and ensuring quality and efficiency across the department.

Key Responsibilities
This is a working supervisor/lead role with direct involvement in machining and department operations, including:
- Program, set up, and operate CNC machining centers, mills, and lathes
- Optimize existing and new CNC programs using in-house software
- Perform equipment inspections and routine preventative maintenance
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and specifications
- Conduct first article inspections and verify parts using precision measurement tools
- Ensure all finished components meet quality and tolerance requirements
- Operate multiple CNC machines simultaneously as needed
- Support production scheduling and maintain workflow efficiency
- Lead daily departmental operations and coordinate employee workflow
- Train, mentor, and cross-train employees to improve skills and flexibility
- Maintain employee skills matrices and training documentation
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities
- Monitor labor tracking and production performance metrics
- Coordinate incoming materials and communicate inventory needs
- Ensure compliance with SOPs, GMP, GDP, ISO, and quality standards
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment in accordance with 5S standards
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement initiatives
Professional Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 5 years of CNC machining setup, programming, and operating experience
- CNC Programming Certification or equivalent hands-on experience preferred
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and tolerances
- Experience with CNC mills and lathes in a production environment
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing setting
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with leadership capability
- Comfortable training and mentoring team members
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
- Must be able to pass pre-employment background, criminal, and drug screening
