About this job

Who you are: You're someone who thrives working outdoors and finds energy working alongside a team. Your strong communication skills and willingness to tackle physically hard work set you apart. If you have logging experience and know your way around equipment, that's fantastic--but if your background is in other physically demanding fields like construction or ranching, that experience will serve you well too. Most importantly, you show up every day ready to give your best, pay attention to stay safe, and work hard. Your commitment and drive are exactly what we're looking for--bring your passion, and let's achieve great things together What the job is: The Chokersetter has a very physically hard job. Working outside all day in steep, rugged terrain, you will secure felled logs with cable chokers so the equipment (Yarder) can pull them out of the harvest unit to the landing. From there the logs are processed and sent to local sawmills. Other duties you will assist with are the set up and placement of the Yarder. This includes stringing lines and splicing. You will learn what the whistle signals from the Yarder are telling you and respond accordingly so logs can be extracted safely from the harvest unit. In this role it's important to have good communication skills and be a team player due to the safety concerns from log movement that occurs throughout the day. The key to being successful is working smart, efficiently, and being aware of your surroundings so you and your team members are always safe. Work schedule: An example of the schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00 am to 2:30 pm. Usual days off are Saturday and Sunday. During the height of the season (summer months) there will be overtime available during the week and work scheduled for a few Saturdays depending on production needs. Where you'll work: Logging crews muster at the office in Crannell located in Humboldt County along the northern California coast. The Crannell office is nestled in the forest where the redwoods meet the Pacific Ocean. It's a pretty amazing place to start your day. Compensation Details: This is a union job. The hourly rate for this job starts at $29.42. There is a probationary period per the Union Collective Bargaining Agreement of 90 days for new hires. If you pass the probationary period, the wage goes to the regular rate of $31.42. The wage is just one part of the total compensation package. Other rewards include eligibility to receive an annual company financial bonus. In addition, the Union offers a generous benefit package to include medical, vision and dental, life and disability insurance. Paid time off includes 9 designated and up to 2 personal holidays, 10 vacation days, 5 sick days, 3 days bereavement, an extra 2 days bereavement unpaid and jury duty. Green Diamond offers a 401(k) plan with match and profit sharing.
