Job Description
Job Title: Distribution Designer
Job Description

This role supports electric utility distribution projects by performing detailed pole analysis, validating field data, and managing assets and work orders within established utility systems. The distribution designer ensures that pole designs meet compliance standards, field records remain accurate, and work orders progress efficiently from initiation through completion. The position is ideal for a professional with hands-on experience in PoleForeman (ikeGPS), TED‑CE, and enterprise asset or work management tools in a utility environment, particularly on resiliency work for Entergy projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support electric utility distribution projects by performing pole analysis and validating field data within established utility systems and processes.
  • Use PoleForeman (ikeGPS) to perform pole load analysis and determine pass or fail conditions based on structural and loading criteria.
  • Interpret National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) compliance results, including clearances, loading, and pole class, to ensure designs meet applicable standards.
  • Model poles accurately in PoleForeman using correct conductor sizes, attachment heights, span lengths, and ruling spans.
  • Identify situations that require engineering escalation versus issues that can be corrected in the field, and act accordingly.
  • Use TED‑CE as a field-to-office execution tool for Entergy projects, confidently navigating field assets within the system.
  • Locate poles, spans, and attachments in TED‑CE, and verify existing field conditions against system records.
  • Flag discrepancies such as missing assets, incorrect ownership, or inaccurate attributes, and ensure these issues are documented for correction.
  • Understand how field data from TED‑CE feeds into work orders, asset updates, and engineering reviews, and maintain accuracy throughout these processes.
  • Operate within an Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) and Workforce Management environment, working inside work orders rather than only viewing them.
  • Update job status accurately, associate work with the correct assets, and capture completion documentation within the asset or work management system.
  • Recognize how field activities contribute to compliance reporting, asset life-cycle tracking, and the overall system of record in the EAM platform.
  • Contribute to distribution resiliency projects by applying joint use and make ready experience to ensure designs accommodate multiple users and future upgrades.
  • Collaborate with project teams, engineers, and field personnel to resolve design issues and ensure timely work order completion.
  • Maintain a consistent workload and meet deadlines while adhering to established utility processes and quality standards.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum 2–3+ years of distribution design experience, specifically working on resiliency projects.
  • Hands-on experience with PoleForeman (ikeGPS) for pole load analysis and modeling.
  • Experience using TED‑CE as a field-to-office execution tool on Entergy distribution projects.
  • Proficiency with asset suite or Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems for work management, including updating job status, associating work to assets, and capturing completion documentation.
  • Awareness of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) requirements and the ability to interpret compliance results related to clearances, loading, and pole class.
  • Joint use and make ready experience in a utility distribution environment.
  • Ability to verify field conditions against system records and identify discrepancies in assets, ownership, and attributes.
  • Understanding of how field data feeds into work orders, asset updates, engineering reviews, compliance reporting, and asset life-cycle tracking.
  • ENTERGY project experience in distribution design or related utility work.
  • Capability to work within structured utility processes and systems while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working with enterprise asset or workforce management tools in an electric utility environment.
  • Background with organizations that perform distribution design, joint use, or make ready work for utilities.
  • Comfort working with digital tools and field data collection systems to support accurate records and reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to distinguish between issues requiring engineering escalation and those that can be resolved in the field.
  • Ability to maintain a consistent workload and manage tasks to meet project schedules.
  • Field-accurate and correction-aware mindset, ensuring that data integrity and compliance remain a priority throughout the project lifecycle.
Work Environment

The role operates primarily in an office environment with a standard schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., aligned with a 9/80 schedule that provides every other Friday off. The position involves working within structured Enterprise Asset Management and Workforce Management systems, using tools such as PoleForeman (ikeGPS), TED‑CE, and asset or work management platforms to support electric utility distribution projects. The workload is consistent, with very minimal travel required, allowing for a stable routine and focused project work. The organization offers a hybrid-friendly culture, including a defined number of work-from-home days each year, and provides strong benefits and long-term opportunities once employees convert to direct employment.
