This role focuses on optimizing setup times, maximizing machine utilization, and ensuring all parts meet exact specifications and tight tolerances through accurate machining and thorough inspection.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate 3-axis CNC milling machines to produce high-precision parts in both low- and high-volume production runs.
  • Optimize setup times and maximize machine utilization to improve overall productivity.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and route instructions to understand part specifications, dimensions, and required tolerances.
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to ensure all parts conform to engineering specifications.
  • Troubleshoot CNC programs and make necessary adjustments to tooling, offsets, and parameters to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Set up CNC equipment to complete full machining cycles, including loading tools, setting work offsets, and verifying programs.
  • Maintain and adjust machine offsets to ensure parts remain within specified tolerances throughout production runs.
  • Inspect parts using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges, and follow established in-process inspection procedures.
  • Identify non-conforming parts or processes and promptly notify the appropriate lead or supervisor.
  • Collaborate with programmers, quality personnel, and other team members to resolve quality issues and improve machining processes.
  • Document work as required, including recording inspection results and communicating status of jobs in process.
Essential Skills
  • At least 5 years of experience operating CNC mill machines in a manufacturing environment, including performing setups.
  • Proficiency in setting up and running 3-axis CNC mills for both low- and high-volume production.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and route instructions accurately.
  • Strong understanding and practical use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Hands-on G-code experience for troubleshooting and making program adjustments at the machine.
  • Experience using precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to inspect parts.
  • Ability to follow in-process inspection procedures and maintain tight tolerances.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve machining and quality issues.
  • Effective communication skills to work closely with supervisors, programmers, and quality personnel.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience operating CNC mills from brands such as Brother, Doosan, Takumi, and Siemens-controlled machines is preferred but not required.
  • Background in operating both mills and lathes is beneficial.
  • Experience with multi-axis machining, including 5-axis equipment, is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex machine setups and changeovers efficiently.
  • Familiarity with general CNC programming concepts and machine controls.
