The Mechanical & Robotics Technician supports a highly automated fulfillment facility by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing material handling and robotic systems. This role focuses on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment, ensuring maximum uptime and safe operation of automated packaging and distribution systems. The position primarily follows a 4:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. Wednesday–Saturday schedule, but requires full flexibility to work any of the four rotating shifts as needed.
Responsibilities
- Promote and maintain a safe working environment by consistently following all safety procedures and guidelines.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance routines on material handling equipment and robotic systems, ensuring all work is accurately documented.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical issues on material handling equipment, including belts, motors, photo-eyes, relays, and related components.
- Install, maintain, and repair automated packaging and distribution equipment to support continuous operations.
- Support and maintain pneumatic and hydraulic systems associated with automation and material handling.
- Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), when applicable, to receive work orders, record activities, and track maintenance history.
- Track, organize, and store department inventory, including spare parts, tools, and consumables, to ensure availability for maintenance tasks.
- Collaborate and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues across the operations facility to support production and maintenance goals.
- Mentor and support junior technicians by sharing knowledge, demonstrating best practices, and helping them grow in their roles.
- Apply knowledge of electrical and electronic principles to diagnose basic input and output function issues in automated systems.
- Interpret and work from blueprints and electrical schematics to perform repairs and installations, when required.
- Conduct predictive and preventive maintenance procedures to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
- Perform basic metal and wood fabrication tasks as needed to support equipment installations and modifications.
- Follow Material Handling Equipment (MHE) safety standards in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and facility safety requirements.
- Move and handle parts, tools, and equipment weighing up to 49 pounds and stand or walk for shifts lasting up to 12 hours, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Travel up to approximately 20% of the time, as needed, to support operations at other locations or for training.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, shifts, and areas, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
- Willingness and ability to work any of the four shifts: Sunday–Wednesday 4:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., Sunday–Wednesday 4:00 p.m.–4:00 a.m., Wednesday–Saturday 4:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., and Wednesday–Saturday 4:00 p.m.–4:00 a.m.
- At least 1 year of experience using a PC, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Foundational mechanical maintenance skills relevant to a maintenance technician role.
- Basic electrical maintenance skills, including working safely around electrical systems.
- Ability to work with pneumatic and hydraulic systems in an industrial environment.
- Ability to lift on average 20 pounds and occasionally up to 49 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to perform repetitive bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods.
- Adequate dexterity and coordination for manual picking, pinching, holding, grasping, and repetitive wrist motion, including use of foot pedals.
- Associate degree or higher from a vocational school or college with a focus in mechanical or electrical fields.
- 2 years of experience with automated conveyor systems and controls.
- 2 years of experience in the repair of material handling equipment.
- 2 years of experience conducting predictive and preventive maintenance procedures.
- 1 year of experience in metal and wood fabrication.
- 1 year of experience reading blueprints and electrical schematics.
- 1 year of knowledge and practical application of electrical and electronic principles.
- Experience working with Material Handling Equipment (MHE) safety standards in accordance with OEM and safety guidelines.
- Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Experience with robotic or electromechanical system operation and maintenance.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic input and output functions within automated systems.
- Project management experience related to maintenance or engineering projects.
- Hands-on experience with PLC-controlled systems and industrial automation.
- Exposure to mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in an industrial or warehouse environment.

Work Environment
This role is based in a highly automated fulfillment facility equipped with state-of-the-art material handling, robotics, and conveyor systems. The environment involves working around moving machinery, automation, and industrial equipment, with frequent use of tools, computers, and diagnostic devices. Shifts are 12 hours in length, and the primary schedule is 4:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. Wednesday–Saturday, with the expectation of flexibility to work any of the four rotating day or night shifts, including weekends and holidays. The physical setting includes standing and walking on concrete floors for extended periods, working in small or confined spaces, and exposure to dust, fumes or odors, noise, vibration, and varying temperatures both inside and outside, as well as wet or uneven surfaces. The role may require travel of up to approximately 20% to support other locations or training needs. Appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment are required to ensure safety while working around automated and industrial systems.
