Job Summary:
The Nursing Director – Inpatient Care provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and clinical direction for inpatient nursing services, including Medical/Surgical units and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This role is accountable for ensuring high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies. The Nursing Director collaborates with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to support exceptional patient outcomes, efficient department operations, and effective resource management.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide 24-hour leadership, accountability, and oversight for inpatient nursing operations.
- Direct and manage nursing services for Medical/Surgical units and ICU.
- Ensure delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based patient care.
- Lead quality improvement, patient safety, and performance initiatives.
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement clinical policies, procedures, and standards.
- Manage staffing, scheduling, recruitment, employee development, and performance evaluations.
- Oversee departmental budgets, resource allocation, and financial performance.
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, accreditation, and organizational requirements.
- Support patient and family-centered care initiatives.
- Foster a positive work environment that promotes staff engagement and professional growth.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maine or Compact RN License.
- License must be in good standing with the applicable Board of Nursing.
- Previous nursing leadership and management experience in an acute care hospital setting.
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or related advanced degree.
- Specialty nursing certification.
- Leadership or nurse executive certification.
