The G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center is seeking a dynamic, results-driven physician leader to serve as Chief, Specialty Care. This pivotal role provides visionary leadership, strategic direction, and expert oversight of all specialties within Medicine Service—serving Veterans across Mississippi and parts of Louisiana and Alabama.

Leadership & Management
- Direct, manage, and coordinate Medicine care planning and implementation across the service area.
- Develop performance standards, evaluate key supervisors, oversee subordinate assessments, and ensure continuous staff development and retention.
- Serve as a principal advocate and spokesperson for Specialty Care and Medicine Service programs.
Program Oversight
- Exercise administrative, programmatic, clinical, and academic oversight of the Medicine Care Service.
- Responsible for budget development, implementation, and resource utilization for all Specialty Care programs.
- Lead integration of clinical and administrative operations into comprehensive services that address the unique needs of the Veteran patient population.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure Medicine Service programs adhere to Joint Commission, regulatory, and VA standards (assessment, care, ethics, safety, continuum of care, etc).
- Regularly review, evaluate, and improve program performance, patient satisfaction, and clinical quality by monitoring established metrics, wait times, and outcomes.
Clinical Excellence
- Direct patient care needs assessments, identify gaps in services, and develop new programs to meet those needs.
- Exhibit leadership in initiating and implementing evidence-based changes to patient care practices.
- Maintain personal commitment to lifelong medical education and clinical advancements.
Academic & Collaborative Leadership
- Oversee and evaluate academic programs affiliated with the Specialty Care Service; serve as liaison to partnering institutions.
- Foster and maintain effective collaboration within and across departments for optimized patient care and academic enrichment.
Additional Responsibilities
- Recruit, train, supervise, and retain high-caliber staff.
- 20% clinical care commitment in your specialty.
- Serve as Acting Chief of Staff as needed, and contribute as a member of the Clinical Executive Board.
- Responsible for completion of all clinical, educational, and administrative requirements.
- Administrative on-call rotation during nights/weekends/holidays and provide clinical call back up, as necessary.
