Location: Whitman, MA
Schedule: Monday - Friday | 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Pay Range: $38.00 - $43.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications

First Student is now hiring a Diesel Technician for our shop serving Plymouth, Freetown, and Duxbury from our Whitman, MA location!

Pay Details: Dependent on experience and qualifications

About the Diesel Technician Position

As a Diesel Technician with First Student, you will help maintain and repair school buses to ensure safety and reliability.

Diesel Technician Responsibilities
  • Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for our passengers
  • Diagnose and perform all phases of vehicle maintenance including brake repairs and inspections, engine tune-ups, suspension repairs, drivetrain repairs, transmission repairs, clutch replacements, and other mechanical repairs
  • Perform preventive maintenance (PMs), safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems
  • Complete work orders accurately and maintain proper service documentation
  • Assist with mobile emergency repair services when needed
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Follow all company safety and maintenance procedures
Diesel Technician Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5+ years of diesel, fleet, bus, truck, heavy equipment, or automotive maintenance and repair experience, or equivalent technical school education and experience
  • Strong vehicle diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Valid driver's license required
  • CDL Class B or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment (company-paid training provided)
  • Possession of a mechanic's tool set required
  • Willingness to participate in the ASE certification program (training, testing, and pay increases provided)
  • Strong computer and documentation skills
  • School bus, fleet, transit, municipal, or heavy truck experience preferred
Additional Requirements

This position is considered safety-sensitive and is subject to DOT drug testing.

DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
