Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Test Technician to support product development, validation, and certification activities within a laboratory environment. This role is responsible for executing product verification testing, supporting design engineers, performing compliance testing to industry standards, and maintaining laboratory equipment and test setups. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with electrical and electronic systems, laboratory instrumentation, troubleshooting, and regulatory compliance testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Support design engineers with product development activities, including component evaluation, prototype assembly, and design verification testing.
- Execute electrical and electronic product testing in accordance with approved test plans, specifications, and industry standards.
- Analyze test results and document findings to verify product performance and compliance requirements.
- Prepare, review, and maintain accurate test reports, technical documentation, and laboratory records.
- Perform safety, EMC, and regulatory compliance testing in accordance with UL, CSA, IEC, and other applicable standards.
- Coordinate and support certification activities with external accredited testing laboratories and certification agencies.
- Design, build, modify, and maintain electrical and mechanical test fixtures and laboratory setups.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical and electronic circuits using schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering documentation.
- Perform precision soldering and rework of surface-mount and through-hole electronic components.
- Set up and operate laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power analyzers, data acquisition systems, and LabVIEW-based test systems.
- Collect, analyze, and organize test data to support engineering evaluations and product improvements.
- Assist with laboratory accreditation activities, audits, and quality system compliance, including ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and work areas in a safe and organized condition.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, or a related technical discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience; OR
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience.
Technical Skills
- Experience performing electrical or electronic product testing in a laboratory environment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical and electronic circuits.
- Proficiency using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMMs), power meters, ammeters, and other laboratory instrumentation.
- Hands-on experience with prototype assembly, wiring, soldering, and rework.
- Strong technical documentation and report-writing skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience performing UL, CSA, IEC, EMC, or other regulatory compliance testing.
- Experience working with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), motor controls, or power electronics products.
- Familiarity with LabVIEW or automated data acquisition systems.
- Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory quality systems and accreditation requirements.
- Experience supporting third-party product certification activities.
