Medical Assistant (Back Office – HIV/STD Services)

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Assistant to support back office operations in a high-volume, fast-paced community health clinic. This role has a strong focus on HIV/STD testing, counseling, and phlebotomy, and serves underserved populations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate cultural sensitivity, professionalism, and reliability while delivering high-quality patient care.


Key ResponsibilitiesClinical & HIV/STD Services
  • Perform high-volume phlebotomy, including finger sticks, urine collection, and specimen processing.
  • Provide client-centered pre- and post-test HIV counseling.
  • Conduct HIV/STD risk assessments and deliver prevention and education counseling.
  • Take and document vital signs, room patients, and prepare charts for provider review.
  • Assist providers during examinations and medical procedures.
  • Perform rapid HIV testing and support patients seeking related services.
  • Maintain monthly equipment logs (e.g., glucometer, Hemocue, refrigerators).
  • Support linkage to HIV primary care, including newly diagnosed and re-engaging patients.
Administrative Support
  • Assist with referral coordination, submission, and tracking.
  • Support patient discharge processes and provide follow-up instructions.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant documentation in accordance with Quality Management and funder requirements.
  • Ensure strict adherence to HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards.
Additional Duties
  • Prepare and maintain clean, stocked, and organized exam rooms with appropriate sterile supplies.
  • Collect patient medical histories and perform basic intake assessments.
  • Perform urine dipsticks and point-of-care testing (e.g., hemoglobin, glucose).
  • Assist clinical staff with patient care, treatment preparation, and wound care support.
  • Support front office tasks as needed, including patient check-in, scheduling, and record maintenance.
Required Qualifications
  • Medical Assistant experience in a clinical setting
  • Proficiency in EMR systems and documentation
  • Strong phlebotomy skills with ability to perform in a high-volume environment
  • Knowledge of HIV/STD testing and counseling preferred
  • Current BLS certification (if applicable)
  • Strong patient care and customer service skills

This is a Contract position based out of West Hollywood, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $24.00/hr.
