    Job Details
  • Under supervision of nursing staff, responsible for monitoring and direct care of patients on hemodialysis.
  • Monitors patients on an ongoing basis and communicates information to appropriate team member.
  • Works as a member of the interdisciplinary team caring for dialysis patients.
  • Responds in emergency situations.
  • Reinforces education to patients.
  • Documents patient care and observations.
  • Follows operational activities specific to assigned unit.
  • Treats patients and families with respect and dignity.

  • Functions as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Administers normal saline solution via extracorporeal system under nursing supervision.

  • Administers anticoagulants (heparin or saline) as prescribed and monitored by nursing staff.
  • Instills anticoagulant at discontinuation of dialysis treatment into catheter ports as ordered.
  • Performs blood drawing procedures.
  • May be required to take on-call in acute settings.
    Job Requirements
  • Dialysis clinical technician certification required; must be obtained within 18 months of hire if newly employed.
  • Certification must be maintained according to federal regulations and CMS-approved national certification programs.
  • High School Diploma required; Associate’s Degree in science preferred.
  • Previous dialysis experience preferred.
  • Must pass two exams during orientation: medication calculation and dialysis.
  • Must be able to flip pods and conduct dialysis independently, monitored by RN.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience required.
  • Must meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities and standards.
  • Must possess personal qualities including self-direction, flexibility, teamwork, initiative, willingness to learn, acceptance of diversity, and customer service values.
    Schedule Information
  • Schedule: 4/10's shifts - either 4am to 2:30pm or 9am to 7:30pm.
  • Workdays Monday through Saturday.
  • Will work 3 Saturdays in a 6 week period.
  • 10 hours per day.
  • 40 hours per week.
    Unit Specific Information
  • Unit involves dialysis therapy adjustment and monitoring.
  • Requires technical skills such as cannulation, machine set-up, and disinfection.
  • Must respond to audible alarms and emergency situations.
  • May be required to take on-call in acute settings.
  • Must pass color vision test.
  • Involves lifting and pushing patients on stretchers and wheelchairs.
  • Exposure to hazardous wastes and materials possible.
  • Must adhere to infection control policies and procedures.

  • Must practice customer skills through ongoing training and in-services.
  • Must demonstrate willingness and ability to work effectively in a complex and changing environment.
  • Demonstrates caring and compassionate manner toward patients and families.
  • Completes all required in-services and online education.
