The Diesel/Garage Mechanic will be responsible for daily preventive maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of the vehicles assigned to him/her, as well as providing on-site emergency assistance as required when issues arise in the field. There are three levels of Mechanic that work in the shop, each with corresponding levels of responsibility based on their experience and levels of certification.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
- Performs basic Per-Trips on all various rolling stock.
- Performs all necessary paperwork associated with the assigned job, i.e., (work orders, charge parts out).
- Drives various equipment safely on the lot or into the garage work area.
- Adjust brakes and clutches to FMCSA standards.
- Performs all Category C tasks.
- Changes/replaces clutches; PMs all equipment; makes or repairs hydraulics or hoses.
- Performs work assignments with minimum direction from the supervisor.
- Performs basic welding functions along with being able to change out a variety of components related to equipment
- All other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have valid driver’s license (MVR check is condition of employment).
- Willing and capable of working overtime as required.
- Demonstrate excellent attendance and punctuality.
- ASC Certification (preferred).
- Diesel Certification (preferred).
- Excellent Communication Skills.
- Ability to work with Onsite software.
- In-depth knowledge of Fleet Maintenance Operations or transferable skill sets from similar industries.
- Ability to provide own tools.
- 2 years Garage/Diesel Mechanic experience preferred.
- Follow Department of Transportation, State and Federal laws, and company safety policies and programs.
- Must be able to follow workplace safety rules, including PPE, preventing and reporting unsafe acts and conditions, Lockout Tag out procedures, and process safety management-related matters.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Occasionally work in outdoor environments (including inclement weather).
- Lift up to 75 lbs.
- Work around raw, live animal odors.
- Work in a noisy environment (>85 decibels) and moving equipment.

- Must be able to work in a stationary position or on feet for the entire shift.
- Ability to multitask and work quickly.
- Ability to work with others in a close environment.
