About this job
Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Project Engineer to support commercial electrical construction projects within a self-perform electrical contractor environment. Projects include healthcare, hospital, university, and institutional construction work.
This is not a purely administrative role. The Project Engineer will work closely with Project Managers, foremen, field teams, vendors, and leadership throughout the full project lifecycle — from preconstruction through closeout. This position supports project coordination, documentation, scheduling, procurement, field communication, and day-to-day execution across active job sites.
For the right candidate, this role offers a strong long-term growth path into a Project Manager position.
Responsibilities
- Support Project Managers throughout all phases of commercial electrical construction projects from preconstruction through final closeout
- Assist with RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement tracking, project documentation, and closeout materials
- Coordinate with electricians, foremen, field teams, subcontractors, and vendors to keep plans, schedules, and field execution aligned
- Communicate with general contractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders on day-to-day project matters
- Review and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and construction documents
- Assist estimating and preconstruction teams with takeoffs, scope reviews, and project setup activities
- Collaborate with BIM/VDC teams to identify design conflicts and support field-ready coordination
- Track project schedules, procurement timelines, material deliveries, and field progress
- Maintain accurate project records and reporting within construction management and ERP systems
- Participate in jobsite visits to support field coordination and active project execution
Requirements
- 2–5+ years of experience in commercial electrical construction as a Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, or similar role
- Experience working for an electrical contractor is required
- Commercial electrical experience required; residential-only or GC-only backgrounds will not be considered
- Experience supporting RFIs, submittals, scheduling, procurement, project documentation, and field communication
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and construction documents
- Familiarity with Bluebeam, Accubid, Procore, or similar construction management software preferred
- Strong organizational, communication, and coordination skills
- Hands-on involvement in day-to-day project execution required
- Genuine interest in growing into a Project Manager role over time
Benefits
- Competitive salary based on experience
- Health insurance and benefits package
- Retirement plan options
- Paid time off
- Defined advancement path toward a Project Manager role
- Opportunity to contribute to large-scale healthcare, university, and institutional construction projects
If you’re looking to grow your career in commercial electrical construction while gaining hands-on project experience on complex projects, we’d love to hear from you.
