The Department of Physics and Astronomy in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University (WVU) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher. Under the leadership of Subhasish Mandal, the incumbent in this position will conduct research in the field of Physics. This is a full-time, 9-month, benefits-eligible position.

This position will perform research in computational condensed matter physics. The skillset requires a Ph.D. in Physics or materials science. Advanced knowledge of computational approaches that go beyond the conventional density functional theory is required for performing research on the topic of computational quantum materials science.

Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities are functional in nature and performed under general supervision. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform computational research on condensed matter physics.
  • Analyze results and publish them in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present the results in national and international conferences and workshops.
Qualifications

Professional Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Physics is required.

In addition, the successful applicant must have:

  • A mininum of three (3) years of experience in each of the following:
    • Doctoral research work
    • Experience with first-principles density functional theory (DFT) is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform first-principles density functional theory (DFT) is essential, and a background in dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) and/or machine learning is desirable. A Ph.D. in the physical sciences (Physics, Chemistry, or Materials Science) is required and experience with programming (such as Python) is expected.

The successful candidate may be permitted to begin employment prior to degree confirmation with a letter certifying the trainee has completed all degree requirements from their university.
