Marathon Staffing is Hiring 1st Shift supervisors in Coatesville PA!!!
The Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a designated shift within the wood processing facility. This role ensures that production targets are met safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality standards. You will lead a team of machine operators and laborers, managing everything from raw material intake to the final output of processed lumber or wood products.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Efficiency
Workflow Management: Direct the daily activities of the shift to meet production schedules and minimize downtime.
Operational Oversight: Monitor various stages of processing—including sawing, drying, planing, and treatment—to ensure optimal machine performance.
Troubleshooting: Identify mechanical or operational bottlenecks and coordinate with maintenance teams for rapid resolution.
Safety & Compliance
Safety Leadership: Enforce strict adherence to OSHA standards and internal safety protocols (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, PPE compliance).
Incident Reporting: Conduct safety briefings and lead investigations into any near-misses or on-site incidents.
Environmental Standards: Ensure the facility remains compliant with dust control, waste management, and local environmental regulations.
Team Leadership
Supervision: Manage a team of 15–30 employees, including scheduling, performance evaluations, and conflict resolution.
Training: Onboard new hires and provide ongoing cross-training on specialized wood processing equipment.
Accountability: Maintain high morale while ensuring all staff meet productivity and attendance expectations.
Quality Control
Product Integrity: Conduct regular inspections of processed wood to ensure it meets grade specifications and moisture content requirements.
Waste Reduction: Monitor recovery rates and implement strategies to minimize wood waste and maximize yield.
Qualifications & Skills
Experience: 3+ years of supervisory experience in an industrial manufacturing environment (experience in timber, pulp, or wood processing is highly preferred).
Technical Knowledge: Understanding of wood grading, sawmill operations, or industrial kiln drying processes.
Problem Solving: Ability to think critically under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, work in varying temperatures (indoor/outdoor), and navigate a heavy industrial setting.
Communication: Strong verbal and written skills for reporting production metrics and leading team huddles.
Work Environment
This position operates in a high-decibel industrial environment involving heavy machinery and moving equipment. Shifts may include nights, weekends, or overtime depending on production demands.
