Job Description
Part-Time Route Driver / Local Delivery Driver
Goldenrod Compost Company is hiring a part-time route driver to help collect food scraps from local businesses and deliver clean collection bins. This is a good fit for someone with delivery, route driving, box truck, Amazon DSP, FedEx, UPS, moving, landscaping, equipment operation, or food service delivery experience who wants steady local work with a mission-driven small business.
Goldenrod Compost helps restaurants, coffee shops, groceries, and institutions keep food scraps out of the landfill and turn them into compost for local farms and soils. We are growing and looking for a reliable driver who can handle physical work, take care of equipment, and represent the company well with customers.
Schedule
This is a part-time position, usually 2-3 days per week or 5 half days with the possibility of a more as the route grows. Primary route days are expected to be Mondays and Thursdays, with some flexibility.
Typical days may run 8 to 12 hours, depending on route size, weather, traffic, and workload. Some early mornings are required. Routes are local only, with no overnight travel.
Routes may start from either Louisville, KY or near Brandenburg, KY
Final reporting location may depend on the route, truck location, and the employee’s home base.
Job Duties
Responsibilities may include:
- Driving local collection routes in Louisville and surrounding areas
- Operating an F-59 step van or up to a 26-foot box truck (no special licence required)
- Using a truck liftgate to safely load and unload bins and equipment
- Swapping full food scrap bins for clean bins at customer locations
- Moving heavy wheeled bins, sometimes rolling up to approximately 400 lbs
- Using a bin tipper to dump bins safely
- Washing and sanitizing bins with a power washer
- Loading, unloading, and securing bins and equipment
- Recording weights, notes, photos, or service details as needed
- Communicating clearly about route issues, missed pickups, contamination, equipment problems, or customer needs
- Keeping the truck, bins, and work areas clean and organized
- Driving a skid steer as needed
- Working outdoors in all weather conditions
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license
- Safe driving record
- Ability to drive larger vehicles, including a step van or box truck
- No CDL or special license required
- Ability to operate or learn to operate a truck liftgate, bin tipper, power washer, and skid steer
- Ability to move heavy wheeled bins safely
- Ability to lift, push, pull, bend, climb in and out of trucks, and work on your feet for long days
- Comfortable working outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and messy conditions
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work early mornings
- Able to follow a route and work independently
- Comfortable interacting professionally with customers
Preferred Experience
Experience in any of the following is helpful:
- Amazon delivery
- FedEx, UPS, USPS, or other delivery routes
- Box truck or step van driving
- Food service delivery
- Waste, recycling, compost, or hauling work
- Landscaping, construction, or equipment operation
- Liftgate, skid steer, pallet jack, forklift, or similar equipment experience
We are willing to train the right person, but prior route driving or delivery experience is strongly preferred.
