About the Role:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in Acute Care plays a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care within fast-paced hospital settings. This position focuses on providing direct support to patients with acute medical conditions, ensuring their comfort, safety, and dignity throughout their treatment journey. The CNA collaborates closely with registered nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to monitor patient status and respond promptly to changes in condition. By performing essential clinical and non-clinical tasks, the CNA helps facilitate efficient care delivery and contributes to positive patient outcomes. Ultimately, this role is vital in maintaining a compassionate and responsive care environment for patients experiencing acute health challenges.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification valid in West Virginia
- Completion of a state-approved CNA training program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Demonstrated ability to perform patient care tasks in an acute care or hospital setting.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in an acute care hospital environment.
- Additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Experience caring for patients with complex medical conditions or post-surgical care.
- Bilingual abilities to support diverse patient populations.
Responsibilities:
- Assist patients with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding while maintaining patient dignity and privacy.
- Monitor and record vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure, reporting any abnormalities to nursing staff promptly.
- Support patient mobility by helping with transfers, ambulation, and positioning to prevent complications such as pressure ulcers.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment by adhering to infection control protocols and hospital policies.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure coordinated and compassionate care delivery.
Skills:
The CNA utilizes clinical skills daily to provide direct patient care, including monitoring vital signs and assisting with personal hygiene, which requires attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols. Communication skills are essential for effectively interacting with patients who may be in distress and for collaborating with nurses and physicians to relay critical information. Time management and organizational skills enable the CNA to prioritize tasks efficiently in a dynamic acute care environment. Familiarity with infection control practices and patient safety standards ensures the CNA maintains a safe care setting. Preferred skills such as proficiency with electronic health records enhance documentation accuracy and support seamless information flow within the healthcare team.
