About the Role
We are partnering with a well-established, multi-state legal services organization specializing in creditors rights, collections, and litigation support to identify an HR Payroll & Benefits Specialist. This organization supports a workforce of 300+ employees across multiple states and operates in a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment.
This role is ideal for a payroll-focused professional who thrives in high-volume processing and enjoys working with HR systems and data. You will serve as the primary owner of payroll operations while supporting benefits administration and core HR processes. The organization offers flexibility on education and values hands-on payroll experience above all else. Job Description
The HR Payroll & Benefits Specialist is responsible for managing end-to-end payroll processing and supporting benefits and HR operations. This role serves as a key internal resource for employees and works closely with third-party administrators to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Process high-volume, multistate payroll for 300+ employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all applicable regulations
  • Manage payroll operations within ADP Workforce Now, including deductions, tax handling, and record accuracy
  • Administer employee benefits, including enrollments, changes, and terminations, and assist with employee requests such as ID card coordination
  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes in ADP, including new hire setup and Form I-9 verification
  • Ensure compliance with state-specific payroll requirements, including timely final pay processing where required (e.g., California regulations)
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee questions related to payroll, benefits, and HR processes
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors for benefits and leave of absence (LOA) administration, including FMLA and state-specific leave programs
  • Perform payroll, benefits, and leave audits to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Assist with benefits reconciliation and maintain accurate HRIS data and employee records
  • Support performance review processes and general HR administrative functions as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive payroll, medical, and employee data
This role is primarily focused on payroll and HR systems, with limited involvement in broader HR functions outside of processing and compliance. Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2+ years of hands-on payroll processing experience, preferably in a high-volume environment (300+ employees)
  • Experience using ADP Workforce Now or similar payroll/HRIS platform
  • Strong understanding of payroll processes, tax handling, and compliance requirements
  • Working knowledge of benefits administration (medical, dental, vision, life, 401k)
  • Familiarity with employment regulations including I-9, W-4, COBRA, ADA, ACA, FMLA, and state leave laws
  • Experience supporting onboarding/offboarding processes, including I-9 verification
  • High level of attention to detail with strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with quick turnaround times
  • Strong communication skills and responsiveness when supporting internal employees
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR systems
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience processing multistate payroll (training available; systems are largely pre-configured)
  • Experience working with third-party administrators (TPAs) for benefits or leave management
  • Exposure to leave tracking, FMLA, or paid family leave programs
  • 24 years of experience in payroll or HR within a professional services environment
  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
