Title:  CNC Technician

Location:  Eaton Rapids, MI

Shift:  Afternoons 3pm – 11 pm

Pay:  21.78/hr. + .50 shift premium


Our client, a leading supplier of innovative lightweight cast metal solutions for the transportation industry, is seeking a maintenance journeyman for their facility located in Eaton Rapids, MI.  The opening is direct with the company and is on a day shift.

 

Primary Purpose of Position


To work within the Engineering Group under the direction of the Engineering Manager, to support production in the APQP of casting process control, scrap reduction, downtime reduction, and continuous improvement activity. Involvement in inter-departmental meetings will also be required to assist in the development of new technology, processes, equipment, APQP activity, and launch preparation.

 

Major Responsibilities of Position

  • Continuous improvement in part quality, reduced scrap, improved machine uptime, and tool life, resulting in goals of achievement.      
  • Coordinate machine set-ups and tool changes.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain machines.
  • Support all departments within the manufacturing facility by providing technical expertise and leadership.
  • Participate in the development of processes and training in conjunction with other departments.
  • Participate in the development of statistical and quality documentation relating to the product and customer requirement.
  • Participate in equipment specification.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of information systems.
  • Participate in developing and maintaining process documentation, experimentation.
  • Develop specific knowledge of the magnesium die cast business.
  • Train employees.
  • Key process variable data gathered, analyzed, and acted upon to improve profits and reduce costs.
  • Checks completed work for quality.  Ensure that work is completed according to schedule.  Assist in resolving problems, delays, and difficulties and taking appropriate action as necessary.
  • Suggest corrections to ensure consistent production, quality standards, reduced costs, and increased efficiency. 
  • Other duties include, but may not be limited to, ensuring that equipment and machinery operate properly and reporting malfunctions to proper supervision.
  • Continues to assist and work together with employees, ensuring their adherence to safety rules and regulations, company policies.  Maintains work area in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Responsible for quality and producing the targeted production rates of finished products for various cells.
  • Performs other duties necessitated by change or condition as assigned.

Personal Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Attributes):

  • Must have prior, demonstrable experience in CNC machining, tooling process, and maintenance fields with preferably five or more years of experience.
  • Have working knowledge of CNC operation as well as all other machining equipment. Must understand all process control monitoring equipment and be able to implement improvements as required.
  • Must be able to identify defect and scrap issues along with understanding downtime problems in order to support on time and first-time quality products to our customers.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently. Must be able to work flexible hours and/or shift rotation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong team player qualities.
  • Sound command of English language (written and oral).
  • Sound understanding in the application of statistical methods, D.O.E., etc. is required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing; layout is preferred.
  • CAD/CAM, AutoCAD or other related computer graphics/drafting related experience would be an asset.
  • Computer skills: Excel, Timeline, etc., would be an asset.

 

Physical demands:

  • Ability to stand, walk, twist, bend, grasp and lift – occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to occasionally climb and carry up to 40 pounds
  • Visual requirements include; ability to visually inspect work performed, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception
  • Ability to drive/operate forklift
  • Must have the ability to tolerate the above requirements for a minimum of 8 hours daily

 

Work Environment

  • Automotive manufacturing environment; shift work, i.e., five-eight-hour shifts for 40 regular hours per week with overtime as required.
  • Shop Environment:  75% of the time, includes exposure to industrial safety hazards, loud and sudden noises, hot/humid conditions; standard tools available
  • Production Environment:  25% of the time, includes exposure to industrial safety hazards, loud and sudden noises, hot/humid conditions.  Extreme temperatures during the summer and winter months can be expected

 

Educational and Certification Background

  • Bachelor of Engineer degree preferred
  • Associate’s Degree required
