Job Description
Job Title: CNC Mill Machinist
Job Description

This role focuses on setting up, operating, and monitoring CNC milling machines to produce precision components to tight tolerances. You will interpret blueprints and specifications, program and adjust machine controls, and perform detailed measurements to ensure all parts meet quality and dimensional requirements. The position requires strong technical skills in CNC milling, tool setup, and inspection, as well as the ability to troubleshoot machining issues and collaborate with production and programming teams.

Responsibilities

  • Study blueprints and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements for finished workpieces.
  • Calculate and set machine controls to regulate machining factors such as coolant flow, depth of cut, speeds, and feeds.
  • Enter commands to retrieve, input, and edit computerized machine control parameters on CNC milling equipment.
  • Set up CNC milling machines by machining and mounting fixturing for production runs and positioning machines for accurate part production.
  • Assemble, measure, and load tooling for subsequent operations into tool changers to support efficient machining.
  • Start and observe machine operations to detect malfunctions, tool wear, or out-of-tolerance conditions, and adjust machine controls or parameters as required.
  • Use micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, and other precision measuring devices to confirm part geometry meets specified tolerances, including holding tolerances of +/-.002.
  • Perform First Article Inspection (FAI) and thoroughly inspect parts to verify conformance to blueprints and specifications.
  • Collaborate with production operators, programmers, and other team members to resolve machining and quality issues.
  • Assemble and preset tooling for the next operation during automated cycles to minimize machine downtime and improve efficiency.
  • Maintain, clean, and lubricate machines as required to ensure reliable operation and extend equipment life.
  • Operate CNC milling machines such as Kitamura, Brother, Haas, and GenMill, following established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Apply knowledge of Fanuc controls to operate and adjust CNC programs and machine functions.
  • Perform basic CNC coding adjustments as needed to optimize part quality and cycle time.
  • Ensure all work complies with aerospace machining standards and internal quality requirements.
Essential Skills
  • Hands-on CNC milling experience is required, with a focus on mill operations rather than lathe work.
  • At least 6 months of experience and understanding of CNC milling machining.
  • Strong understanding of basic CNC operations, including setup, operation, and adjustment of milling machines.
  • Ability to set up machines, change tools, and apply basic CNC codes to run and adjust programs.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and specifications for precision parts.
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and depth gauges to verify dimensions.
  • Capability to hold tight tolerances of approximately +/-.002 on machined components.
  • Experience performing First Article Inspection (FAI) and inspecting parts against blueprint requirements.
  • Familiarity with Fanuc controls for CNC milling machines.
  • Ability to calculate and set machining parameters such as coolant flow and depth of cut.
  • Skill in detecting and correcting machining issues by observing machine operation and adjusting controls.
  • Ability to maintain, clean, and lubricate CNC equipment according to shop standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working in an aerospace machine shop environment is preferred.
  • Experience operating multiple types of CNC milling machines such as Kitamura, Brother, Haas, and GenMill.
  • Comfort working on a second shift schedule from Monday to Thursday.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate with production operators and programmers.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, precision components.
  • Ability to assemble and preset tooling to reduce machine downtime and improve throughput.
Why Work Here?

You will join a growing facility that offers a family-like team environment and clear opportunities for career advancement. The organization provides paid training and a supportive, enjoyable workplace where your technical skills can develop and thrive. A comprehensive benefits package is available, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, paid time off, eight paid holidays plus one floating holiday, an employee stock ownership plan, and additional supplemental benefits.
