This role leads aircraft maintenance and corrosion control operations in support of C-5 and C-17 military aircraft at a major Air Force Base. You will oversee aircraft washing, corrosion control, and ground servicing in a 24/7 mission-critical flightline environment. The position requires an experienced aviation maintenance leader who understands heavy aircraft operations, USAF standards, and corrosion control programs, and who can drive safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise all aircraft wash and corrosion control operations for C-5, C-17, and similar heavy aircraft.
  • Manage teams supporting 24/7 flightline operations, ensuring continuous mission support and coverage.
  • Ensure strict compliance with USAF Technical Orders, AFOSH safety standards, and all contract requirements.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the USAF Contracting Officer Representative (COR), maintaining clear and professional communication.
  • Oversee workforce training programs to ensure personnel are fully qualified and compliant with technical and safety standards.
  • Develop and manage work schedules to support around-the-clock operations while balancing staffing and workload.
  • Direct quality control activities to ensure all maintenance, wash, and corrosion control work meets or exceeds required standards.
  • Prepare and maintain operational reports, logs, and documentation to support compliance, audits, and performance tracking.
  • Coordinate vendors, equipment, and mission-critical resources to ensure availability and readiness for ongoing operations.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and enforce safe work practices around large aircraft and ground support equipment.
  • Monitor and optimize use of equipment and materials for aircraft washing and corrosion control to support efficient operations.
  • Support on-call and surge requirements as needed to meet mission timelines and changing operational demands.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 10+ years of aircraft maintenance experience.
  • Experience working with heavy aircraft such as C-5, C-17, or similar platforms.
  • Experience in supervising maintenance or service teams in an aviation environment.
  • Strong knowledge of corrosion control processes and aircraft servicing practices.
  • Proficiency in interpreting and applying USAF Technical Orders and AFOSH safety standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate diverse teams.
  • Strong communication skills for effective coordination with military counterparts and internal teams.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage scheduling, training, quality control, and reporting activities.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance and successfully complete a Background check.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including on-call support as mission needs dictate.
  • Ability to work safely around large aircraft and ground equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions, including heat and cold.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certificate or equivalent military aviation maintenance experience (preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with aircraft detailing, washing, and corrosion control programs.
  • Experience working on or around flightline operations for large military aircraft.
  • Familiarity with C-5 and C-17 aircraft systems and ground servicing requirements.
  • Experience coordinating with external vendors and managing mission-critical equipment and resources.
  • Proven ability to maintain accurate operational records, reports, and documentation.
  • Experience implementing and monitoring safety and quality programs in an aviation maintenance environment.

Why Work Here?

You will contribute directly to a high-impact, mission-critical aviation operation that supports major military airlift assets. The organization promotes a strong safety and quality culture, values experienced aviation professionals, and provides opportunities to lead a dedicated team in a dynamic flightline environment. You will work with complex heavy aircraft systems, develop your leadership and operational management skills, and gain experience in a highly visible role supporting essential national defense missions.

Work Environment

The role is based at a major Air Force Base flightline environment supporting C-5 and C-17 aircraft. You will work in and around large aircraft and ground support equipment in an active operational area. The operation runs 24/7, so schedules may include nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments to meet mission requirements. Work frequently takes place outdoors in extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and precipitation.
