Job Description

This Medical Assistant role supports a busy clinic by providing both clinical and administrative assistance to ensure high-quality patient care and smooth daily operations. The position focuses on patient follow-ups, accurate data entry, coordination of lab work, and effective communication with patients and healthcare professionals, all within an electronic medical record (EMR) environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient follow-ups to ensure continuity of care and address ongoing needs.
  • Update patient records accurately, including entering patient information and visit details into the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Answer inbound phone calls in a professional and courteous manner, assisting patients with questions, scheduling, and general inquiries.
  • Schedule patient appointments and follow-up visits, ensuring efficient and accurate appointment coordination.
  • Order laboratory tests as directed and ensure all necessary information is accurately documented.
  • Relay lab results to patients and providers in a timely and clear manner, following clinic protocols.
  • Provide clinical support to healthcare providers, contributing to safe and effective patient care.
  • Assist with front desk tasks such as check-in, check-out, and verifying patient information as needed.
  • Use EMR (Athena) and other electronic medical record systems to manage patient data and documentation.
  • Deliver excellent customer service to patients, demonstrating empathy, professionalism, and clear communication.
  • Apply medical terminology appropriately when documenting and communicating patient information.
  • Collaborate with other clinic staff to support a positive, efficient, and patient-centered environment.
Essential Skills
  • At least 1+ year of experience in medical assisting or a closely related medical support role.
  • Medical assisting diploma, certification, or 1+ years of medical assistant experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience in medical assisting, including clinical support and patient care.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR), specifically Athena or similar systems.
  • Experience with electronic health records and medical record management.
  • Ability to schedule appointments and manage patient follow-ups efficiently.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and its application in documentation and patient communication.
  • Experience ordering labs and handling related documentation.
  • Ability to answer and manage a high volume of inbound phone calls professionally.
  • Strong customer service skills in a healthcare or medical setting.
  • Experience with front desk responsibilities in a clinic or medical office.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) knowledge or certification (if held) to support patient safety.
  • Understanding of health insurance processes and medical insurance basics.
  • Ability to work effectively in a healthcare team and follow clinical protocols.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Formal medical assisting diploma or certification is preferred but not strictly required if experience requirements are met.
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or similar credential is a plus.
  • Previous experience in healthcare, medical offices, or clinical environments.
  • Strong attention to detail for accurate data entry and record keeping.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for interacting with patients and staff.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced clinic setting.
  • Comfort using electronic medical record systems and other healthcare technology.
  • Customer service experience, especially in medical or healthcare environments.
  • Familiarity with basic insurance processes and terminology.
  • Commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care.
Work Environment

This role is based onsite at a clinic, working Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The environment is a professional medical setting where you will use electronic medical record systems, including Athena, and standard clinical and front office equipment. The clinic promotes a supportive and team-oriented culture, offering medical, dental, and vision benefits, a 401(k) plan, and holiday pay. Upon conversion to a permanent role, team members receive additional benefits including nine paid holidays and 15 days of paid time off (PTO). Performance-based pay raises are available, and employees may earn PTO tokens, each worth one hour of PTO, which can be used at any time and accumulated without limit. The clinic regularly organizes dinners, lunches, and employee events, fostering a positive, celebratory workplace atmosphere.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
