Job Title: Material Handler
Job Description
This role focuses on safely and efficiently loading and unloading trucks and vans, handling materials using a sit-down forklift and manual lifting, and accurately processing customer orders. You will work in a warehouse environment where you use computer systems, shipping platforms, and SAP to support shipping, receiving, and inventory control activities.
Responsibilities
- Load and unload trucks and vans using a sit-down forklift or manual lifting of products weighing up to 65 pounds.
- Pick and select specific customer orders accurately by following written instructions and order documentation.
- Perform shipping and receiving activities, including preparing shipments, verifying incoming and outgoing materials, and ensuring proper documentation.
- Use computer systems to complete basic data entry for shipping, receiving, and inventory transactions.
- Process domestic shipments using UPS and FedEx systems, ensuring labels, documentation, and routing are correct.
- Support inventory control by tracking, recording, and organizing materials and products within the warehouse.
- Package and prepare materials for shipment, ensuring items are protected, labeled, and staged correctly.
- Operate a sit-down forklift safely and in accordance with all warehouse procedures and safety guidelines.
- Follow written work instructions and standard operating procedures to complete daily tasks consistently and accurately.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper handling and storage of materials.
- Collaborate with team members to meet daily shipping, receiving, and order fulfillment goals.
Essential Skills
- At least 2 years of warehouse experience.
- At least 1 year of material handling experience.
- At least 6 months of forklift experience, preferably with a sit-down forklift.
- At least 6 months of computer or inventory experience, specifically using UPS or FedEx shipping systems.
- Ability to lift up to 65 pounds safely and repeatedly.
- Proficiency in using a computer for basic data entry tasks.
- Ability to read and follow written instructions accurately.
- High school education or equivalent.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Over 2 years of forklift experience is preferred but not required
- Over 2 years of combined material handling and forklift experience is preferred.
- Experience with UPS and FedEx shipping platforms.
- Experience with SAP for inventory and shipping transactions.
- Background in shipping and receiving, picking, packing, and inventory control.
- Experience with domestic shipping processes.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in order picking and data entry.
- Ability to learn new systems and processes quickly.

Work Environment
This position is based in a smaller warehouse that operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The facility uses four primary dock doors, and when they are open the temperature can become quite chilly, so you should dress appropriately for the weather. You will regularly operate a sit-down forklift and handle materials manually, including lifting up to 65 pounds. The team relies on computer systems, UPS and FedEx shipping platforms, and SAP for inventory and shipping activities. Each person is responsible for maintaining their own work area and contributing to a safe, organized, and efficient warehouse environment.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Britain, CT.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
