POSITION SUMMARY:


We are seeking a dynamic, hands-on Nursing Department Manager to lead our Perioperative Services team at our outpatient surgical center located on the University of Maryland Laurel Medical Center campus in Laurel, Maryland.


This leader will be responsible for overseeing clinical operations, driving quality and patient safety outcomes, supporting staff development, and ensuring exceptional patient care across the department. The ideal candidate is a strong perioperative leader with the ability to build engaged teams, navigate complex healthcare environments, and lead from the front while maintaining clinical credibility and operational excellence.


This role requires an experienced OR leader who is comfortable remaining clinically involved, including both scrubbing and circulating as needed.


Located within the state-of-the-art UM Laurel Medical Center campus, the surgical center supports a broad range of outpatient specialties, including general surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, podiatry, urology, and breast surgery services. The facility features two operating suites and is part of a growing medical campus dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to the surrounding community.



PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


The following statements describe the general nature and level of work performed and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties.


• Provides departmental leadership for the operation of selected patient care departments within the Division to ensure the delivery of quality patient care.


• Supports and interprets the mission, vision, values, philosophy, objectives, and standards of the hospital and nursing department. Directs and coordinates implementation of patient care activities and nursing programs that promote attainment of the same.


• In collaboration with nursing leadership, designs appropriate models of care and practice for assigned administrative units. Assures the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of patient care to achieve cost-effective outcomes.


• Forecasts trends, functions as a change agent, analyzes current status, and improves existing systems.


• Coordinates with other departments to prepare and maintain a safe and therapeutic environment in patient care areas. Monitors safety practices, ensuring environmental and equipment safety and adherence to infection control standards.


• Incorporates and assists staff in incorporating current research findings into clinical practice, care delivery, and management systems.


• Participates in the overall planning process for nursing services. Operationalizes and implements strategic initiatives.


• Other duties as assigned.



EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSURE:


• Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Maryland or eligibility to practice under a Compact State license required.


• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.


• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.


• Three (3) to five (5) years of progressive nursing leadership and management experience required.


• Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory standards, healthcare operations, leadership principles, budgeting, fiscal management, clinical operations, staffing, quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, and employee performance management required.


• Prior perioperative, surgical services, or Operating Room leadership experience required.


• Specialty certification (CNOR or related perioperative certification) preferred.


• Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply.



Schedule: Full Time | Days | Monday - Friday

  • Pay Range: $54.42 - $81.64
