🏥 Travel RN – Operating Room (OR Circulator) | Critical Access Hospital⏰ Schedule & Weekly Hours

  • Weekly Hours: Typically 36–40 hours/week (schedule may vary by facility)
  • On-Call: Required for after-hours surgeries, emergencies, trauma activations, and urgent procedures
📋 Position Overview

The OR Circulator RN serves as the patient's advocate throughout the perioperative process and is responsible for coordinating nursing care before, during, and immediately after surgical procedures.

This role requires strong independent decision-making, adaptability, and the ability to work effectively in a smaller rural hospital environment with limited resources.

🩺 Core ResponsibilitiesPatient Advocacy & Safety
  • Verify patient identity, procedure, consent, and surgical site
  • Perform pre-operative assessments
  • Participate in surgical time-outs
  • Advocate for the anesthetized patient throughout the procedure
  • Maintain a safe surgical environment
Operating Room Management
  • Prepare OR suites before procedures
  • Ensure equipment, instruments, and supplies are available
  • Anticipate surgeon and procedural needs
  • Maintain sterile technique and address any contamination concerns
Intraoperative Circulator Duties
  • Open sterile supplies
  • Handle and document specimens
  • Coordinate communication between the surgical team and anesthesia
  • Perform and document sponge, sharps, and instrument counts
  • Monitor workflow throughout procedures
Patient Monitoring
  • Monitor patient condition and responses during surgery
  • Collaborate with anesthesia providers
  • Ensure patient safety and comfort throughout the procedure
Documentation
  • Complete accurate electronic charting for:
    • Procedures
    • Implants
    • Medications
    • Supplies
    • Patient outcomes
    • Intraoperative events
🏥 Surgical Experience Preferred

  • Resource utilization in a Critical Access Hospital setting
📜 Required QualificationsEducation
  • ADN or BSN from an accredited nursing program
  • BSN preferred
Licensure
  • Active RN License

Accepted:

  • State RN License
  • Compact RN License (accepted in lieu of NM license)
Required Certifications

✅ BLS (AHA)

Required or Obtain Shortly After Start

✅ ACLS (Required or obtained within 6 months)

Preferred Certifications
