Position Summary
Heywood Hospital is seeking a compassionate and experienced Obstetrics Registered Nurse (RN) to join its Women's Health team for a 13-week travel assignment. The ideal candidate will have experience in Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, Newborn Care, and Obstetrics, providing comprehensive care to mothers and newborns throughout the labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum process.
This role requires strong clinical judgment, fetal monitoring expertise, newborn assessment skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, midwives, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure exceptional maternal and neonatal outcomes.
Responsibilities
Labor & Delivery Care
Assess, monitor, and care for patients during labor, delivery, and recovery.
Perform labor assessments and identify deviations from normal labor progression.
Monitor fetal heart rate patterns using external and internal fetal monitoring equipment (FSE and IUPC).
Assist with inductions, augmentations, labor checks, epidurals, NSTs, and external cephalic versions.
Administer medications and IV therapies safely according to physician orders.
Recognize maternal and fetal complications and initiate appropriate interventions.
Stabilize high-risk obstetric patients and assist with transfers when necessary.
Postpartum & Maternal Care
Provide comprehensive postpartum assessments and nursing care.
Assess fundal height, perform fundal massage, and monitor lochia.
Evaluate breast, bowel, bladder, perineal, and emotional status.
Educate mothers and families regarding postpartum recovery and newborn care.
Assist patients with discharge planning and follow-up care resources.
Newborn Care
Perform comprehensive newborn assessments.
Identify abnormal newborn findings and initiate nursing interventions.
Assist with neonatal stabilization and resuscitation when required.
Support breastfeeding and infant feeding education.
Educate families on newborn safety, feeding schedules, and discharge care.
Administer newborn medications and treatments according to established protocols.
Monitor infants requiring phototherapy, CPAP, or additional respiratory support.
General Nursing Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation.
Provide patient and family education based on individualized learning needs.
Communicate effectively with physicians and interdisciplinary team members.
Ensure compliance with facility policies, patient safety standards, and nursing best practices.
Delegate and supervise nursing care appropriately.
Requirements
Education
Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
Experience
Minimum 1 Year of Recent RN Experience.
Minimum 1 Year Med/Surg Experience Required.
Labor & Delivery, Obstetrics, or Maternity Experience Preferred.
Licensure & Certifications
Active Massachusetts RN License.
BLS Certification.
ACLS Certification (or obtain within facility guidelines).
NRP Certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
AWHONN Certification.
PALS Preferred.
IV Competency Required.
