Work Environment

- Work is performed in an office environment and patient care areas which require working in proximity to other employees and patients. Rooms are air conditioned and heated. \n
- Frequent walking, standing, bending and lifting. \n
- Fast paced environment with frequent interruptions. \n
- Exposure to equipment cleaning solutions and disinfectants. \n
- PPE (Eyewear, Masks, Face shields, Shoe covers, and Gloves) as required by UHS Hospitals Infection Control policies. \n

\n Job Responsibilities:\n- \n

Follows Infection Control policies and procedures and demonstrates expertise in surgical scrub technique.
\n - \n
Adheres to principles of sterile technique preoperatively and intra-operatively.
\n - \n
Assists the surgeon when needed gowning, gloving, draping, and passing of instruments and other related items during the procedure. Anticipates the surgeon’s need for instruments, sutures, and equipment.
\n - \n
Maintains an organized operative field at all times by keeping the instruments clean and in their proper place.
\n - \n
Keeps an accurate sponge, tape, needle, dissector, and instrument count.
\n - \n
Prepares for cases by assembling supplies and equipment in accordance with preference cards and identifies conflicts or problems. Cares appropriately for instruments and supplies after each case.
\n - \n
Provides a safe surgical environment for the patient, identifying potential hazards to the surgeon, RN and assisting RN circulator in preoperative checks of equipment.
\n - \n
Displays knowledge of potential hazards (equipment, chemical, or gases) within the Operating Room.
\n - \n
Utilizes experienced OR staff as a resource, and acts as a resource for new OR personnel.
\n - \n
Assists in suturing, retracting, suctioning under direction of the surgeon.
\n - \n
Handles and identifies specimens per policy.
\n - \n
Expedites the effective and efficient turn-over of the OR between cases.
\n - \n
Takes rotating call duty.
\n
Minimum Required
\n- \n
- Meets the NYS Surgical Technologist Certification Law; OR Completed a Surgical Technologist program in the Armed Forces; OR Completed a nationally accredited educational program for Surgical Technologist with a nationally accredited Surgical Technologist credential OR graduated an accredited school of Practical Nursing and has an active NY state LPN license. \n

- CPR Certification within 3 months of hire \n
