***TUESDAY - SATURDAY SCHEDULE***
UNIT NEEDS A HISTOTECH WITH IHC (Immunohistochemistry) EXPERIENCE
FOR ALL TECHS:
***The expected start date is based on Novant’s schedule but is subject to change depending on class and trainer availability. Travelers may start on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday of the first week, and must be fully available with no other commitments to accommodate any schedule changes. Missing any portion of orientation may result in a delayed or canceled start.
***Client will confirm the final start date on the Tuesday prior to the start week.
REQUIRED SKILLS / CERTS / EXP:

*Work Setting Skills REQUIRED: hospital clinical laboratory
*Grossing and fixation Skills REQUIRED: Core biopsies, Curettings, Decalcification, Excision specimens, Incisional biopsies, Shave biopsies & Smears and squash preparations
*Tissue Processing Skills REQUIRED: Automatic tissue processor, Calcified/decalcified tissue, Clearing/types of agents, Dehydration/ types of agents, GI Processing Schedule & Microwave Processing
* Embedding and Microtomy Skills REQUIRED: Automated/Manual Microtome, Cuts tissue sections using microtome and cryostat, Cutting blocks, Embedding GI specimens, Embedding large specimens, Embedding Molds, Embedding skin techniques, Embedding smalls and bigs, Histology Cassettes, Microtomy of Fatty Tissue, Microtomy of hard tissue, Paraffin Wax sections & Removing foreign objects as allowed by protocol
*Staining Skills REQUIRED: Basic dye stains, Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stain, Identifying Artifacts & Prepares slides for staining
*Certs: ASCP-HT
PREFERRED SKILLS / CERTS / EXP:
-Work Setting Skills: commercial or reference laboratories,
-Grossing and Fixation Skills: additive fixatives, Cell component preservation indications and contra-indications for use, Coagulant/ non-coagulant fixatives, Enzyme Histochemistry, Frozen Section/tissues, Immunohistochemistry, In-situ hybridization, Methods of freezing, Non-additive fixatives, & Reagents types/components
-Types of Microscopy Skills: Brightfield microscopy, Dark Field, Nomarski, Phase Contrast, Scanning Electron Microscopy & Transmission Electron Microscopy
-Embedding and Microtomy Skills: Gelatin/adhesive media, Microtomy of Frozen sections & Precision microtomy
-Staining Skills: Carbohydrates and amyloid, Connective and muscle, Cytoplasmic stains, Differentiation, Giemsa and all formulations, IHC staining, Nuclear stain, Periodic Acid-Schiff (PAS) stain, Prepares frozen section and mounts sections on glass slides & Special Stains
-Mounting procedures Skills: Aqueous, Coverslip, Refractive index & Resinous
-Additional Skills: 24 Hour Urine
Certs: ASCP-HTL
JOB DETAILS:
Target Ratios: 500 blocks/night
Shift: Tuesday-Saturday 2am-11:00a, 5 shifts 8 hours with a lunch.
40 hours can be offered.
Will accept 13-week contracts.
Call Requirement: No call.
Float Requirement: None.
PATIENT DIAGNOSES: Preferred (not required) exp: Neonates, Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics
SPECIAL PROCEDURES / UNIT DETAILS: Employee is responsible for preparing sections of body tissue for examination by a pathologist to diagnose body dysfunction and malignancy. This includes the preparation of tissue specimens of human origin for diagnostic or teaching purposes. Employee will process sections of body tissue by fixation, dehydration, embedding, sectioning, decalcification, micro incineration, mounting and prepares dyes and chemical solutions and processes frozen sections.
Employee works with 4 other histotechs to process, cut and embed 500 blocks per night on average.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT: Preferred exp: Leica Peloris Tissue Processor, Tissue Tek VIP Tissue Processor, Tissue Tek Prisma H&E Stainer
UNIT SYSTEMS: EPIC (preferred)
UNIT ORIENTATION: 2.75 hrs online, 8hrs in person
Hospital Orientation week one: traveler must be available for classes each day.
