Job Brief
Kable Workforce Solutions is hiring a SR PLC Controls Project Engineer for our client. This job is responsible for the design, development, programming, implementation, and support of advanced robotic automation systems with a primary focus on PLC and HMI controls. This role serves as a technical leader on complex automation projects, managing electrical design, controls architecture, customer communications, project execution, and system startup activities.

What’s a Typical Day Like?

Design, develop, program, and support robotic automation systems to meet customer specifications and project requirements
Develop complete PLC and HMI programs utilizing Allen Bradley and Siemens platforms
Perform advanced electrical calculations to verify design requirements and system performance
Create electrical schematics, control panel designs, bills of materials (BOMs), and supporting documentation
Develop, test, startup, debug, and validate complete automation systems
Analyze test data to ensure systems meet functional and performance specifications
Apply industry standards including NEC, ANSI-RIA, OSHA, and applicable electrical codes
Develop standard engineering solutions and best practices for future automation projects
Lead complex automation and controls projects from concept through customer acceptance
Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining schedules and deliverables
Assist with project budgeting, forecasting, milestone tracking, and resource planning
Support project kickoff meetings and provide technical leadership throughout project execution
Communicate project status, risks, and technical challenges to stakeholders
Assist with milestone invoicing and project documentation as required
Serve as the primary technical contact for customers throughout project execution
Facilitate design reviews with customers, suppliers, and internal departments
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during system integration, commissioning, and startup
Provide technical leadership and support to engineering, manufacturing, sales, service, and customer teams
Assist with technical proposals and solution development
Follow and support ISO procedures and quality standards
Contribute to the development of engineering standards, methodologies, and best practices
Assist with engineering change management and project closeout reviews
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction

What Are the Requirements of the Job?

Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a related technical field required
6–8 years of experience in PLC controls engineering, automation engineering, robotics, or related field
Extensive experience programming Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC/HMI systems
Experience leading complex automation projects from design through startup
Experience working directly with customers on technical projects
Experience in robotic automation systems preferred
Advanced Allen Bradley PLC programming
Advanced Siemens PLC programming
HMI development and programming
System startup, commissioning, and debugging
Industrial networking and communications
Electrical troubleshooting and diagnostics
Electrical system design
Fuse and wire sizing calculations
Electrical schematic development
Control panel design
Bill of Material (BOM) creation
Electrical code compliance

Occasional exposure to moving machinery, electrical systems, UV exposure, sparks, heat, fumes, and industrial environments
Moderate noise levels
Occasional exposure to hazardous materials, lubricants, solvents, cleaners, paints, and related industrial products
Experience with robotic automation systems and integration
Knowledge about robotic platforms
Project management experience
Experience with ISO-compliant engineering environments
Strong understanding of industrial automation safety standards and machine controls
