About the Role
Elford is seeking an experienced Mechanical Superintendent to oversee and coordinate all mechanical construction activities on assigned projects. This role is responsible for managing field operations, ensuring safety and quality standards are met, coordinating subcontractors and self-perform crews, and driving projects to successful completion on schedule and within budget.
The ideal candidate brings strong field leadership experience in mechanical systems, including HVAC, piping, plumbing, and related infrastructure, along with a commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
What You'll Do
- Lead and coordinate daily mechanical construction activities performed by Elford crews and subcontractors.
- Maintain strong working relationships with owners, design teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
- Monitor field operations to ensure work is progressing safely, efficiently, and according to project schedules.
- Supervise and mentor field personnel while promoting a collaborative and productive jobsite culture.
- Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and logistics to support project goals.
Safety & Quality
- Champion Elford's safety culture and ensure compliance with company policies and all regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular site inspections and proactively address safety concerns.
- Ensure all mechanical installations meet project plans, specifications, codes, and quality standards.
- Oversee required testing, commissioning activities, inspections, and corrective work when necessary.
Planning & Project Execution
- Review drawings, specifications, and subcontractor scopes to ensure complete understanding of project requirements.
- Assist Project Managers with scheduling, permit coordination, inspections, and site logistics planning.
- Support project cost control efforts, billing processes, and subcontractor performance management.
- Participate in weekly project meetings and lead meetings as needed.
- Attend Field Operations meetings and company training programs.
What We're Looking For
Experience
- 10+ years of construction industry experience with a focus on mechanical systems.
- 5+ years of experience in a Superintendent, Foreman, or Mechanical Field Leadership role.
- Experience managing HVAC, plumbing, piping, process mechanical, or large commercial mechanical construction projects.
- Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors and working in occupied or complex environments is preferred.
Education
- Trade school, apprenticeship program, Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Mechanical Systems, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and practical field experience will be considered.
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of mechanical construction means, methods, and sequencing.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to influence teams and drive accountability across project stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving, planning, and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency with construction technology and standard computer applications.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and schedules.
