Job Description
The Physician Assistant – Gynecology, Urogynecology & General Surgery is a key member of a collaborative surgical team, partnering with experienced physicians to provide high-quality care across both clinical and surgical settings. This hybrid role combines outpatient care, surgical first-assist responsibilities, and comprehensive perioperative management, including pre-operative, intraoperative, and post-operative care.
The Physician Assistant will support three Specialties: Gynecologic Surgery, Urogynecology, and General Surgery while delivering exceptional patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive patient care across both clinical and surgical settings.
- Assist in the operating room, including participation in gynecology, urogynecology, and general surgery procedures.
- Provide pre-, intra-, and post-operative care, inclusive of preoperative evaluations, patient education and postoperative follow-up visits.
- Support clinic operations while maintaining efficient workflows across services.
- Opportunity to work closely with physicians in a growing Urogynecology service line.

Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current PA-C certification.
- Active Maine state Physician Assistant license.
- DEA registration.
- Current BLS and ACLS certification.
Preferred Experience & Skills
- Documented first assist experience in the operating room, ideally in:
- Gynecology/GYN surgery (ex: minimally invasive hysterectomy, laparoscopic salpingectomy/salpingo-oophorectomy, laparoscopic treatment of endometriosis)
- General surgery
- Minimally invasive and laparoscopic procedures are strongly preferred
- Formal first-assist training or significant operative experience.
- Postgraduate surgical residency/fellowship for PAs (strongly preferred).
- Robotics experience not required (dedicated hospital based robotic surgical assist team in place).
Clinical & Procedural Expertise
- Experience with ambulatory surgery workflows (pre-op, intra-op, PACU handoff, and same-day discharge).
- Background in gynecologic procedures (e.g., hysterectomies, oophorectomy).
- Comfortable assisting in vaginal procedures and use of uterine manipulators(prior experience not required, training will be provided).
- Interest in Gynecology, Urogynecology and General Surgery.
Core Competencies
Perioperative Care:
- Pre-op assessment and surgical readiness.
- Immediate post-op evaluation and patient education.
- Managing routine surgical follow-up issues.
Intraoperative Proficiency:
- Use of laparoscopic instruments and camera assistance.
- Maintaining sterile technique and OR efficiency.
- Tissue handling, retraction and exposure.
- Hemostasis, suturing, knot tying, and wound closure.
