We have partnered with Project for Pride in Living to offer a paid Apprenticeship program. It's called the HERC Operator Apprenticeship Program.

Apprentices will join the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (HERC) as Operator Apprentices, working 28 hours a week. They will also engage in 12 hours of schoolwork a week through Bismarck State College. During the apprenticeship you will engage in coursework in Power Process Technology. This prepares participants for careers in the operation of modern industrial facilities. Participants will also obtain heavy equipment training and prepare to earn their special boiler's license. Gain hands-on experience training to practice operating the equipment you will use at the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center.

Dates: August 10th, 2026 to August 2028
Cost: FREE
Time Commitment: 40 hours a week (work and coursework)
Starting Pay Range: $33.38 an hour

Qualifications for Participation

  • High school diploma or GED

  • At least 18 years of age

  • Driver's license

  • Legal to work in the United States
