Job Description

Safety Manager

About Halyard

Join Halyard, West Michigan's premier commercial contractor in cold-formed metal framing, drywall hanging & finishing, and acoustical ceiling systems — a team known for extraordinary craftsmanship, integrity, and building long-lasting client relationships.

At Halyard, people come first. We empower our team members to thrive through a culture built on proactive ownership (“Batteries Included”), strong collaboration, reliability (“Walk the Talk”), and a commitment to continuous growth (“Grow or Die”).

When you join us, you're not just taking a job — you're becoming part of a company that delivers the best collaborative experience in the construction industry, with a mission to safely and efficiently provide superior craftsmanship across commercial and residential projects.

The Role

The Safety Manager at CBG is a hands-on safety leader — responsible for advancing our safety culture across active jobsites and our manufacturing facility. You'll run audits, lead toolbox talks, investigate incidents, and make sure the people doing the work go home the same way they came in.

If you've spent the last couple of years as a Safety Coordinator, Assistant Safety Manager, or Safety Specialist, you already know the day-to-day — you've walked sites, led toolbox talks, and written incident reports under someone else's program. This role is the next step. You'll own the program, not just execute it. You'll have meaningful daily authority, mentorship from experienced operations leadership, and a real path to grow into Senior Safety Manager. You'll work closely with Site Superintendents, Project Managers, and shop supervision to deliver outstanding results for our clients — and you'll be backed by a team that takes safety as seriously as it takes its craft.

What You'll Do

· Walk active jobsites and the manufacturing shop floor — observe, coach, and document

· Lead toolbox talks, new-hire orientations, and weekly safety meetings that people actually engage with

· Investigate incidents and near-misses to find the real root cause and drive corrective action

· Run safety audits, manage OSHA recordkeeping (300, 300A, 301), and keep training records audit-ready

· Implement job hazard analyses (JHAs), pre-task plans, and site-specific safety plans

· Coordinate required training: fall protection, PPE, scaffold, forklift, hot work, lockout/tagout, silica, and respiratory protection

· Support trade partner prequalification and onsite compliance reviews

· Partner with shop supervision on machine safeguarding, ergonomics, and shop-specific hazards

· Help maintain client safety prequalification platforms (ISN, Avetta, Veriforce)

· Build day-to-day relationships with foremen, superintendents, and shop leads so safety is a shared priority — not a checkbox

What You Bring

· 2+ years of progressive safety experience in commercial construction, industrial, or manufacturing settings

· Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 (Construction); 1910 (General Industry) experience a plus

· Current First Aid, CPR, and Bloodborne Pathogens certifications (or willingness to certify within 60 days)

· Strong written documentation - your incident reports should hold up under client and insurance scrutiny

· The ability to coach a 30-year foreman on fall protection without coming across as the kid with a clipboard

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; Procore or similar construction software a plus

· Valid driver's license and willingness to travel between local jobsites and our manufacturing facility

Bonus Points

· OSHA 30-Hour Construction (and we'll support you in getting it if you don't have it yet)

· Coursework or a degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or Industrial Hygiene

· Progress toward CHST, ASP, STSC, or another nationally recognized credential

· Experience around interior finishes, mission-critical work, or panelized/prefab manufacturing

· Bilingual (English/Spanish)

· Experience in an EOS-based organization

The Details

· Location: Rockford, MI office with regular travel to jobsites across Greater West Michigan and Central Michigan, plus the manufacturing facility

· Travel: Regular local travel required; occasional long-distance or overnight travel depending on project location

· Hours: Full-time; standard business hours with flexibility for project demands

· Physical: Active jobsite and shop floor environment; frequent walking, standing, and climbing; occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.; PPE required
