This role supports the launch and growth of a new fabrication department by performing hands-on production and quality control of fabricated parts on first shift. You will operate a variety of fabrication machines, interpret fabrication drawings, and ensure parts meet specified tolerances while maintaining safety, efficiency, and quality standards in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate all machines in the fabrication department, including CNC, press brake, punch press, and similar equipment, in an effective and cost-efficient manner while maintaining high quality and safety standards.
- Perform hands-on production of fabricated parts according to fabrication drawings and work orders.
- Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers and tape measures to check tolerances based on specifications and ensure parts meet required dimensions.
- Read and interpret basic fabrication drawings independently to fabricate parts correctly and verify tolerances.
- Check samples periodically during production to ensure they match the approved first-piece sample.
- Ensure the first-piece sample is double-checked and verified by other plant personnel before proceeding with full production.
- Identify material clearly with shape number, work order number, and quantity, and ensure stock material numbers are recorded accurately on work orders when using existing inventory.
- Verify material for proper cut length before fabrication to prevent errors and waste.
- Maintain a safe working environment at all times by following company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with all plant production personnel to coordinate workflow, resolve issues, and support on-time order completion.
- Report equipment malfunctions promptly to the appropriate personnel to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
- Support on-time completion of orders by managing tasks efficiently and maintaining organized work processes.
- Contribute to getting the site fully operational by supporting startup activities and adapting to evolving processes in the fabrication department.
- Ideally 5+ years of hands-on machining experience with CNC, press brake, punch press, or similar fabrication machinery.
- Proficiency in operating fabrication equipment such as CNC machines, press brakes, and punch presses.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments, including calipers and tape measures, to check tolerances and verify part dimensions.
- Ability to independently read and interpret basic fabrication and production drawings.
- Strong understanding of tolerances and quality requirements for fabricated parts.
- Experience performing quality checks using calipers and other measurement tools to ensure parts meet specifications.
- Demonstrated ability to operate machines in a cost-efficient manner while maintaining quality and safety.
- Ability to work safely in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment and follow company safety policies and procedures.
- Effective communication skills to interact with plant production personnel and support coordinated operations.
- Attention to detail in identifying and documenting material information, including shape numbers, work order numbers, quantities, and stock numbers.
- Experience working in a non-climate-controlled, heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with general fabrication practices, including material handling and basic setup of machines.
- Comfort working in a growing or restarting facility and contributing to process improvements as the site becomes fully operational.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain focus on quality and on-time order completion.

Work Environment
This position operates on a first shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The role is based in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment that is currently non-climate-controlled, so temperatures may vary with the seasons. The facility is in the process of being brought back to full operation, offering a dynamic setting where processes and equipment are being re-established and optimized. You will work around large fabrication machinery and production equipment, following safety procedures and plant policies to maintain a secure and efficient workplace.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $47840.00 - $54080.00/yr.
