Swiss Lathe Machinist

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Swiss Lathe Machinist to join our manufacturing team. This position is responsible for operating, setting up, and maintaining Swiss-style CNC machines to produce high-quality precision components while meeting production, quality, and efficiency goals.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Swiss machining, a strong understanding of machining principles, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced production environment. Candidates who can assist with process improvements, troubleshooting, and minor program modifications are especially encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate Swiss-style CNC machines to produce precision machined components.
  • Perform machine setups, tool changes, and production changeovers.
  • Load and unload materials and finished parts.
  • Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Inspect finished parts to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and process documentation.
  • Apply GD&T principles during setup, inspection, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Assist with troubleshooting machining issues and identifying process improvements.
  • Modify existing programs and switch between established programs as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Move between machines and production areas to support operational requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience operating Swiss-style CNC machines.
  • Experience with machine setup, operation, and production monitoring.
  • Experience with Star and/or Tsugami Swiss machines preferred.
  • Experience machining materials such as 316 stainless steel, aluminum, and Monel.
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, and cutting techniques.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Effective problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Positive attitude, flexibility, and willingness to collaborate with team members.
  • Ability to adapt to changing production priorities and work across multiple machines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience making minor program edits or modifying existing CNC programs.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for improving quality, efficiency, and machine utilization.
  • Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives in a manufacturing environment.

Schedule

This position is primarily scheduled on second shift, Monday through Thursday, with opportunities for voluntary overtime as production demands require.
