About this job
Job Description
We are currently looking for a Key Account Manager to join our team at our office in Southfield, Michigan. We want a professional who brings a "solution provider" mindset to the table. This is a hybrid role with 3 days required in office.
About the Role
This position is designed for an analytical person who enjoys balancing sales, pricing data, and project management. Please note: This is not an old-school sales job. You will not be responsible for cold-calling or searching for new business. Instead, you will inherit and manage a critical book of established Tier-1 and OEM automotive accounts, including high-profile brands like Ford and Tesla.
Your time will be split into two main areas: 80% of the job focuses internally on cost analysis, tracking data, and managing spreadsheets, while 20% of the job focuses externally on customer relations and resolving urgent client issues.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the RFQ Process: Manage complex Request for Quote (RFQ) projects from start to finish. Coordinate with internal teams like Engineering, Logistics, and Quality to build strong, competitive commercial offers.
- Pricing and Cost Breakdowns: Handle detailed pricing calculations, create new quote templates, and track costs for annual price negotiations to protect our total profit margins.
- Forecasting and Planning: Partner with the Controlling team to prepare sales figures, track order volumes, and create monthly, quarterly, and annual Business Plans.
- Resolve Commercial Issues: Serve as the main point of contact for stressful customer situations. Manage and negotiate Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) or program cancellation claims.
- Coordinate Globally: Work closely with our local office, our manufacturing plant in Mexico, and our corporate headquarters in Germany to ensure global orders are filled on time.
YOUR PROFILE
- Education: A Bachelor's degree is required. A major in Business Administration, Economics, or Engineering is preferred.
- Experience: 2 to 6 years of experience as a Pricing Specialist, Account Manager, or Commercial Project Manager within the Automotive Industry. Experience working at structured Tier-1 companies or competitors like Sumitomo, Aptiv, Bosch, Magna, or ZF is a major advantage.
- Product Knowledge: Background knowledge of automotive electronics, connection systems, or High-Speed Cable Assemblies is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Advanced skills in MS Excel for data analysis and template creation are required. Experience with automated quote systems is a plus.
- Mexico Factory Collaboration: With our factories located in Mexico, being fluent in Spanish and understanding the local culture is highly valued.
- Work Style: You must be organized, able to handle a heavy workload under pressure, and capable of communicating with absolute transparency to maintain customer trust.
- Logistics: This is a hybrid position. You will work 3 days a week in our Southfield, MI office, so a commute of under 30–45 minutes is ideal. Occasional international travel to Germany and Mexico is required for plant alignment and onboarding.
