Yard Manager

Overview

The Yard Manager is responsible for directly overseeing daily yard activities, including driver management and yard compliance, traffic flow, and inbound vehicle coordination. This role ensures safety, efficiency, and compliance with all company and customer procedures.

Driver Management

• When needed, counsel drivers when company or customer policies or procedures are not followed
• Implement and/or enforce yard bans for non-complicit drivers in advance of like action from the customer

Traffic Flow & Yard Safety

• Maintain safe and efficient traffic flow throughout the yard
• Enforce proper vehicle loading and unloading procedures, including dumping air (when applicable) and loading from ground
• Ensure all personnel working outside wear high-visibility safety gear
• Monitor loading dock activity to ensure:
• Only vehicles being actively loaded or unloaded occupy dock space
• Proactively identify and mitigate potential safety hazards
• Conduct load audits on every load to ensure drivers are following all policies and procedures

Yard Security

• Confirm all established yard security measures are adhered to
• Escalate any issues involving security immediately to the Safety Department

Additional Duties

• Support the Operations Department after normal dispatch hours by coordinating replacement or additional vehicles for outbound loads
• Generate and review daily shipping and receiving reports
• Communicate all reporting and updates in a timely manner
