What You'll Do

As a Collections Specialist, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day collection activities for both residential and commercial customer accounts. Your primary focus will be on reducing delinquent balances, resolving payment issues, and maintaining positive customer relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contact customers regarding overdue accounts via phone, email, and other communication channels.
  • Negotiate payment arrangements and assist customers in resolving outstanding balances.
  • Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, disputes, and account issues.
  • Recommend accounts for utility service restoration or placement with third-party collection agencies when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate customer records and collection documentation.
  • Develop, update, and monitor collection procedures, policies, and compliance requirements.
  • Create and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly collections and accounts receivable reports.
  • Build and manage databases, spreadsheets, and reporting tools used to track customer and vendor activities.
  • Collaborate with customer service teams to deliver effective solutions and exceptional customer experiences.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements that increase efficiency and collection performance.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of collections experience.
  • Strong understanding of collections processes, practices, and customer account management.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to analyze information, make sound decisions, and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Proven ability to work independently while maintaining high levels of accountability and professionalism.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience within the utilities, energy, or related service industries.
  • Experience with Microsoft Access, SQL, or database reporting tools.
